Healthy Chinese Food?

Recommended Posts

Craving Chinese food, but know my " usual " choices of chicken fingers, boneless spareribs and egg roll are not good choices. ARE there any good healthy choices???

And FYI- banded 5/12/11, no fill yet but doing very well!

Order something that's stir fried with lots of vegetables. Eat the Soup and the inside of the egg roll and by all means....skip the rice. Rice is not a bandster's friend!

Any type of meat + veggies would be good. Maybe order the sauce on the side if you can.

I don't know if you have PF Changs near you but they make a delicious Steamed Ginger Salmon dish. It's about 360 calories for the whole dish - I couldn't even eat half. It was wonderful.

I would recommend gettng something in a light brown sauce like chicken and broccoli. I always ask for no sugar or cornstarch in the sauce- and it taste delicious! Add a little brown rice and your set!

Chinese food is extremely healthy if you make it yourself. You didn't specify if you meant a restaurant -- I make my own PF Chang's style lettuce wraps, minus the rice. And I'm pretty sure mine area healthier. :) Cook some green onion in a bit of oil, when it's sweated add the turkey & brown. Add in Water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, green garlic, homemade hoisin sauce (you can use store bought, homemade is just better for you, and better tasting), soy sauce, ginger, and rice vinegar. Let it all cook together for about 5 minutes, then add in tofu (extra firm, drained & cubed). Eat with bibb lettuce (or on a fork!)

If you mean a regular restaurant -- Cantonese tends to be the healthier of the Chinese foods because of its higher proportion of vegetables, and lower sauce & meat. My restaurant standby is hot & sour Soup with Sriracha and vinegar added (because hot & sour soup is usually neither!). We had some Panda Express last weekend -- I got soup and a Jr order of mushroom chicken, with lo mein.

I haven't been to a Chinese buffet for years, but don't they normally have crab legs? Crab legs are a great Protein. Look for chicken dishes that aren't breaded. Beijing Chicken tends to be a pretty healthy dish, and I'd imagine buffets have it. If you want an eggroll, have an eggroll. Just have one.

You can do fine with stir fried dishes. No breaded meats, and try to stay away from sweet sauces. I like Moo Goo Gei Pan because the chicken is so moist and there are lots of veggies. I add some soy sauce, ignore the rice, and there you go. Soup is a great appetizer- I prefer hot and sour but again, stay away from the fried won tons on top. But basically, any sauteed (not fried) beef, pork, seafood, or chicken in a non-sweet sauce would probably be an ok choice as long as you don't overdo it.

Can never find anything healthy at a chinese buffet so i stick to the sushi. Luckily our chinese buffets have awesome sushi. That and Soup fills me up. The noodles, rice and anything in sauce is horrible calorie choices. I am also in the south so ours have crawfish, steamed cold shrimp, and lots of crab.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I am allergic to all seafood, but you have given me lots of ideas for when I try Chinese food again! I am determined not to undermine my progress.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
