4 days post op, major pain, please help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am four days post op and while my insicion site gets better every day, the gas pains (I think it's that) get worse and worse. I can barely drink anything and am wondering how long I can survive on 100 calories of Protein shake/day plus a few sips of Water. The pain is mainly along my esophagus/back/bit of the shoulders. . . . Sometimes I feel like I have to burp but, and I hope this is not TMI, I start to burp and then it just sort of ends in a verrrrrrry painful spasm/hiccup of my esophagus (I think that's what it is)?

Is this normal? What can I do about it? And should I worry about the fact that I have consumed maybe 500 calories over the last 4 days combined?

Thanks!

for me, the gas pains lasted maybe 3~4 hours (if that).

I was told that you need to move around for those gases to be reabsorbed and released. Ambulation is good but since I can't walk, I did a lot of upper body exercises while I was in the hospital bed and that seemed to alleviate the gas pains.

For me, the pains were focused a bit above my heart...I thought I was having a heart attack....

I wouldn't think you should be having this much pain at 4 days out. I would definitely call your doctor right away. My gas pains lasted a few days and I took a gas reliever that was a strip that melted on your tongue. That helped a lot, along with walking constantly. I hope things get better soon!!! Good luck!!!

First you need to check with your DR. But you will get relief from the gas pains by walking as much as you can and taking gas-x strips!!!

Walking truly helps and so do the gas -x strips and quickly too!

Gas x strips and try to walk alittle every hour. I think everything you wrote sound normal. Gas pains are very difficult to deal with. As far as eating so little-just make sure you are getting as much Protein in as possible because it does help with healing. I had the same appetite the first week after surgery-I could barley get anything down. On my second week my appetite came back full force (after the swelling went down). Hope you feel better!!

PS- you might get more responses if you posted this on the post-op site rather then the Intro site ;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
