Hi! Surgery on 5/25 and excited!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I'm glad to be here and really excited about my banding date in less than 48 hours! My sig. has my info/dates/etc. At my highest (not counting my last pregnancy where I hit 300), was 260. As soon as my husband's insurance changed and I found out that surgery may be covered, I started my Dr. supervised diet and dropped down to 220, but gained 10 back. At the time I started my preop diet I was at 230 and now down to 218. I've been wanting to do WLS since 1999 and came very close to RnY in 2000 but chickened out after a LOT of negative feedback from my family. When I finally got my nerve back, I didn't have insurance that would cover it - no matter what co-morbidies I had. My family doctor had Lapband and raved about it and she was worried that if I did RnY that I would get too sick. She referred me to her surgeon (who is in our local rural area) and I was able to get in immediately, get all my paperwork in order and get approved rather quickly. My date was set and here I am!

I'm on my presurg diet and I finally have gotten used to not eating. My diet is a liquid only, 800 calorie diet. First few days were rough but my body started losing and that was all that mattered to me at the time. I'm worried about pain after surgery and pain meds... Most pain meds make me want to hurl and thats WITH food in my stomach. I can't imagine being able to take pills after surgery to help with pain. Any ideas or info on this?

hi and welcome. pain meds after surgery are in liquid form. and the other pill i take is for my thyroid but it's really tiny. i have no Fluid in my band right now so it goes down as normal. the most pain you will have will be at your port site and gas. everyone talked about it referring to your left shoulder and i had no idea what they were talking about the first two days , then BAM! OMG! i'm like am i having a heart attack! LOL! but that's the most severe i have experienced, but then i'm a big baby when it comes to pain. walk, walk walk walk...did i say walk. this is what gets rid of the gas pain. i'm 4 days post op and i feel great, even drove around for a few errands yesterday. this isnt the easy way out by any means, but as long as your committed to the process you will be fine! best wishes on your journey!

Thanks for responding. I was terrified that I'd be subscribed some monster sized Vicodin ! LOL. I didn't even think of liquid form meds. I'm glad to hear that you are doing pretty good at 4 days out. Are you still on liquids?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
