Who's the Best in Florida? Best Surgeon? Best Aftercare?

Recommended Posts

My road home was not so good because I was still waking up from the anesthesia. My husband had to stop 2 x on the way home but once I got home I went right to bed and when I woke up I was much better.

Chewing on Ice was best for me that first day. It was better than drinking the water' date=' but that just might be a preference. I wasn't in a lot of pain (he does send you home with pain medicine & antibiotics). I did have to take pain medicine the first 2 days, but then I tried to only take 1 at night, which I did need for about the next 3 more days. I haven't needed it since.

The people there were nice. My surgery was 9/13 and I've lost 17 pounds. I had my surgery on a Friday and I went to work on Tuesday. I was going to go back Monday but I wasn't ready. I have a desk job though, but I ride the Metrorail to downtown Miami and I have to walk to my work from the station and I actually was ok on Tuesday. Tired when I got home but I've done fine. I wish you the best of luck! # Piece of advise: Get the gas-x strips before the surgery (you are allowed to have them). On the discharge slip it says baby gas medicine which I bought for 10.00! Then the nurse told me I could have the gas-x strips and they are like 6.00 and work better![/quote']

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know all of that. It makes me feel better. Surgery is this Monday and I have taken the week off due to the fact I really didn't know what to expect. They have all been very nice to me to this point at Straxx. The girls in his office seem to really care. I had an issue with my potassium level being just a bit high and I am getting my blood work done again tomorrow to see if it has went down, if so Monday is the big day. If not I am going to have to reschedule the surgery! Anyway I will get there. doing the liquid diet today and for the next 2 days before the surgery! ugh!!! How long we're you on the clear liquid part after surgery? How did you progress with eating afterwards? Thanks for sharing, Joe

I was on the liquid diet from day 3 to 10. From days 10 to 20 mushy diet. That's what I'm on now. I wasn't really hungry the first few days anyways and I think that was a clear liquid diet. Warm broth made me feel satisfied and I think it helped me.

I was happy with the staff there. I've had to ask questions along the way and they seemed like they cared. They have a nutritionist that I called a couple times - she was ok - she was a little frustrated with me.

I've done ok with eating lately. I just eat really slow and not that much. I haven't really craved much. I'm probably eating about 700 calories a day and I'm full. Trying to get Protein as much as I can.

Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you - the first few days are a little rough but it goes get better :)

My surgery is through Sarasota Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Bariatric Program and my surgeon is Dr. Scott Stevens. Surgery was on 9/30/13. I have been extremely impressed with Stevens and the entire program including everyone involved. In no particular order; Patrice, Stella, Sue, Linda, Laura and of course Scott. If you all happen to read this THANK YOU VERY MUCH, YOU ARE WONDERFUL!

Sarasota Memorial Hospital staff were amazing as well for both my band placement surgery and a surgery my wife had a couple years ago.

I have had one follow up with Dr. Stevens since surgery and he was very helpful and informative. His office staff are also great. I look forward to my next visit which will be my first fill.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
