I will be banded on may 20th and i'm concerned about where the port will be placed. i wear underwire bra's and am concerned that this may be a problem Is everyone's port placed differently?

I wear underwire bras too and the port is not even close. I believe all ports are placed in the same spot but can be on either the right or left side. You have nothing to worry about. Relax and best wishes!

Ports can be placed just about anywhere the physician decides to put them. Talk this over with your surgeon and unless there are really anatomical problems, it can be put where you desire. Mine was pretty sure he was going to have to put mine in my sternal area (between my breasts) because I was so obese, but he managed to place it on my left side approximately 2 inches above my navel. I"m pleased, I didn't want a sternal port. :)

Mine is on my right side a couple inches below my ribcage. For sure discuss it with your surgeon first. :-)

Mine is just below My bra line, but after about 10 days after surgery I am back wearing underwires. Thank God. I tried sports bra and non-wire bras. Those sucked! Good luck with surgery!

Yikes! It MOVED???? I thought these things were supposed to be attached to a muscle, not able to float around and move!?!?!

That's kinda scary. I'm still trying to figure out where mine is at. Dr. told me after surgery they usually place it very close to the incision mark but he had to move my down and to the left a little because of the way the tubing wanted to lay. My incision (the port incision) is about 2 inches below my sternum and then the port is about an inch below that incision to the left (at least that is what they told me). I think I can feel it but I'm not sure yet.

Mine is about an inch above and to the left of my belly button. I will say that it was in a bad place while I was healing after surgery because it was right at my waist band level so all of my pants irritated it. I'm fine with where it is now, but at the time I wished that I had asked him where it would be so that I could request that it be moved either higher or lower...

Mine is attached to the facia about 2 inches under my bra line a little to the left its perfect for me. Im glad it is there because I have read that later on the one by the belly button can cause Tummy Tuck issues. I will need ps for sure. I can feel mine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
