Got any good Mushy food ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am just so thrilled that my doctor said that I could move to mushy foods starting today (a whole 2 days sooner) and I was wondering if anyone would like to share some good ideas for the "mushy food" stage. I would like to keep up the protien and try to stay in a good calorie range. I know that mashed potato is a big hit, but I don't want to eat all carbs. Either way, I am so excited about eating mushy foods, is that sad! lol. BTW.. he called it pureed stage, that is the same as mushy, right?

Your are too cute!!! I go for my post op tomorrow but my nutritionist told me to go on "mushies" on Monday. I LOVE butternut squash, chinese chicken from the chicken and broccoli, so soft an mushie! Still restricted but when eaten slow you know when to stop! scallops are my favorite...broiled with a little lemon and bread crumb. I can get down 2 which is very satisfying. Green Giant Italian string Beans chewed very tiny. Still the 98% fat free campbells cream of chicken with skim plus milk and some shredded sharp cheddar in it. I have also had a little fat free frozen yogurt which as been wonderful!

good luck!!!

I made this a couple of days ago. All veggies, so healthy (yes avocados are high in calories but they have lots of GOOD fat in them). I broiled chicken breasts and shredded them, then mixed the meat in with mine- my kids and husband ate it with tortilla chips, I just used a fork ;)

Also when making tacos for my family, I'll make myself a bowl with 4 oz. of taco meat and a little refried Beans, with cheese, all mixed together. Looks disgusting but it's yummy.

Here is a good recipe for the mushie stage, and its good.

Small can crushed pineapple (DRAINED)

8oz cool whip

small cottage cheese

1 small box Jello (any flavor that you like or think would go good with pineapple like strawberry.)

put the powder Jello in a large bowel for mixing (NO WATER!)

add the cool whip , stir until blended, add cheese, and stir until blended.

then add in the pineapple, and stir.

Refrigerate over night.

This makes a great low cal salad.

Great for Pot Luck at Parties this summer.

cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, sugar free pudding, applesauce, Protein shakes, and anything soft and mushie that you can think of or puree.

My favorite is refried Beans with cheese and salsa! i also love hummus (easy recipe online), eat it with a spoon and not chips. And cottage cheese. Just chew up the cottage cheese more than you think you have to...

I lived off of chili in my mushy stage. BUT, I was banded in the middle of winter. Now that it's getting warmer, dunno how tasty chili sounds. Fabulous source of Protein if you make it homemade. We probably used about 6 different kind of Beans in it.

Good luck! smile.gif

I took a can of black eyed peas, mixed in some tyson chicken that comes in the little bag, added a small amount of sharp cheddar cheese and some tobasco sauce. It was soooooooooooooooo good. One can of peas and the bag of chicken will make about 4 cups, enough for about 4 meals. I still eat that sometimes even though I am not on mushy food and it still keeps me full. Make sure you put it in the blender.

I eat this about 4 times a week....1 can of tyson chicken. Mushrooms and bar b Que sauce...use a food masher to on the chicken so it is easier to chew...it is so good! Taste almost like pork barbecue!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
