How long does it take you to eat? And how much do you eat?

Recommended Posts

I just got my 2nd fill and I am struggling with getting stuck alot. I think I am eating slow and chewing really well but now I question myself. I was just curious how long it takes all of you to eat a meal or even a 4 ounce piece of meat. Thanks

Well, I am 10 months out and it was generally taking me about 20 minutes to eat. I was always able to eat way more then the recommended "less than a cup" of food. However, last week I had a fill and I have really really good restriction now. I thought for the last 10 months I was just able to eat more than others, I would say I averaged about 2 cups of food per meal. I consistantly lost 10 pounds a month so neither me nor my surgeon were too concerned with the quantity. Now... after my last fill, I am definately eating less than a cup of food and it takes a good 30 minutes. I am super tight, I have not been stuck but sort of think I may be too tight anyway. With my other fills, I seemed tight at first and then it would relax a little, waiting to see if this one does.

Make sure your bites are small too, if I have a good sized bite it doesn't matter how good I chew it, it goes down in one lump and I'm stuck.

Good Luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
