Question for all you Moms & Dads out there....

Recommended Posts

New moms can really benefit from the book "what to expect the first year" they seem to really appreciate it. It's a sequel to "what to expect when you're expecting" that's full of good experiences and advice from other mothers. I give it with a gift basket of baby items. They can use the book for at least a year!

I didn't read all the posts so this may have already been suggested, and I'm far froma mom or dad, but I always give the same gift & it is ALWAYS appreciated. Diaper Genie, and bag refills for it.

For me it was the diaper wipe warmer and the bottle holder that when you clicked the little metal thing in the corner it warmed up to warm up the formula. Then you boiled the warmer to recharge it to use again. Also a smaller diaper bag for those quick trips to the store instead of lugging that big thing around :)

Here is a diaper cake that she made too. I ended up making a basket stuffed full of different things that was really cute, but I forgot to take a picture of it :) . Thanks for the ideas everybody! She ended up with 2 diaper genies & tons of yellow stuff! She definately made a haul though!

She got the cutest diaper bag!! It was handmade & it was black with pink polkadots! I loved it! I would have carried it for a purse. I looked at the wipes warmer too, but I already had a basket full of stuff. If she doesn't get one by the time the baby is here I may buy her one. I can remember the look of utter shock on my little brother & sister's faces when that cold wipe hit their bums! A warmer would definately be good!

I guess I could tell y'all what all I ended up getting her. I think it's the least I could do since everyone put so much effort into giving me ideas. My Mom & my G-ma went in with me so we gave her quite a bit but it wasn't bad split 3 ways. & I'm really glad we did cause not many people showed up. Amy's kind of obnoxious but she has a heart of gold! So here goes!

1. Lanolin breast cream & nursing pads

2. Budreaux's butt paste

3. 2 packs of size 3 diapers

4. big pack of wipes

5. digital thermometer

6. baby manicure set

7. classical music cd for baby

8. motzart for Mom cd

9. crib soother (it was motion & sound activated & played womb sounds & 20 minutes of recorded sounds. Lonnie picked it out. It was way cool!)

10. 2 packs of onesies

11. 2 packs of gowns

12. 2 packs of hats

13. 2 sets of small pyrex bowls

14. 3 packs of burp cloths

15. a leather photo envelope

16. baby wash & lotion

17.baby wash cloths

18. a pack of flannel receiving blankets

19. a super soft fleece blanket

20. a super super soft Teddy Bear

I had everything but the diapers, wipes & nursing pads in a big basket. I made little bunnies out of the wash cloths. Then I wrapped the whole basket in lemon colored netting with a big polkadot bow. It was really cute & I can't believe I didn't get a picture of it!! Thanks everyone! It was a hit!!!!

It's interesting the way they're done differently, I have to admit, I liked mine better, although, the bows all the around was kind of neat. Adding all that other stuff does add to the cost.

Sounds like your gift was very nice and will be greatly appreciated, I'm sure.

Thanks for posting the picture for me to check out.

I couldn't use the regular sized boppy either. However, I found a much larger one with a velcro "belt" that wrapped around the back - it was AWESOME!!! I used it for two of my three kids, and it is still in pretty good shape. I liked that I could adjust my position without having to readjust the boppy everytime!! I highly recommend one if you ever see them - btw, it makes a super knee pillow as well!!!

I got it at either Baby Superstore or Walmart for like $30 or so!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
