Ok...who drinks?

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry, but my husband and I enjoy going out once a month and having a bit of fun. This always includes drinking. We also enjoy wine tastings, and enjoy the occasional scotch together in the evenings. We don't drink a lot, but we have activities that we enjoy that are drink oriented.

I realize there are a lot of calories in booze. I can workout to counteract the calories. But how does everyone who still drinks cope with the booze in the new tummy? any problems? seems to me you would have to drink slow enough it wouldn't get you drunk LOL

It's not being banded necessarily that changes the way drinking affects us, it's the generally lower amount of food we are taking in. With less food it takes MUCH less alcohol to have an effect, and I know I feel it after just a few sips of wine.

So be careful! Another negative effect of drinking is the loss of inhibition. I know that is one of the good things, normally, but post-banding it means drinking makes it much easier to eat more or faster than you should. Even if you don't PB, the next day you can really feel like you did yourself some damage--not to mention the number of extra calories in both the alcohol and the excess food.

So be aware of the pitfalls, but there's no physiological reason not to drink after banding.

Thankfully, we always drink AFTER eating, so I won't have to worry about that, but I am glad that there is nothing about the lap band that say we definitely should not drink ever!

I love my wine, but have had hardly any since being banded, Christmas day and New Years Eve being the exceptions. I'm not a drink till I'm tipsy person generally though anyway, one or two is what I usually stick with.

We would probably have a drink at home 4 nights out of 7, but havent done so for the past few months, I"m happy to save it for when I'm out.

I was very careful at first but I haven't really noticed any difference pre & post banding in drinking -- how it affects me, or how much I can drink.......I don't drink often but when I do, I do :) I think it just passes right through the pouch and processes normally (unless maybe you had a really full pouch)......I have noticed that at parties I then I have to be very careful what I eat later b/c I'm not focused on my band.....(or much of anything else):shade:

Remember to watch the beer and wine coolers (CARBONATION is the DEVIL!) Otherwise, I say enjoy yourself (but don't do like me and get pregnant every time you get drunk!!!)

Hi Amy

I too also enjoy a few glasses of wine and ofcourse as we all the apart from the calories it isnt a problem, remember after you eat when not drinking to wait at least one hour as fluids make the food pass through the band quicker and you loose that full feeling quicker.

Cheers Ruth

The other night, I decided to have a beer at a party my roommate and I were having, and it took me about 4 hours to finish one. I didn't have any problems with it. But I can tell you, I don't see myself drinking much more than that at a time. It filled me up.

Count me in this group. NO way was I going to skip out on a yummy drink now and then. I'm a total dufus though- I thought I'd change from wine coolers to Mikes Hard Lemonade to avoid the carbonation monster. It wasn't until I read the LABEL that I realized that those are carbonated too.

Sheesh, I think Cheri and I are twins......... I just look at a glass bottle (any form of alcohol included) and I'm preggers!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
