Surgeon in Houston,Tx for Lap Band

Recommended Posts

So glad you got to meet Dr Spivak. He really is great! I think what I like about him is that he does his own fills. He put the port in and he know where it is so always gets it with no pain or trouble. Brenda I think is his office manager and did a small unfill for me one day when he was on vacation. Everyone there is so nice. He also always does floro as he has one in his office. So many surgeons do not and people have to go to the hospital to get one. I like knowing when I left his office after every fill we had looked at the band and knew everything was okay.

Also, another comment from Dr. Spival to my daughter when she had her surgery....that the two most important things with the band are the placement of the port and the placement of the stitches to hold the band in place (the flap they make), that that's where the experience and knowledge of teh surgeon comes into play. (Clearly my first surgeon didn't have a clue)...I'm sure the other doctors the other poster has mentioned are probably okay too...but to me if you can get the best for around the same price, why not. But I will say Houston has some of the best surgeons around, hands-down, not just bariatric. So whoever you decide to go with, as long as they're experienced, you'll be good. (I should have listened to my own advice two years ago.) :):)

Hi!

I have decided to get the Lap Band, but I am self pay because of an insurance exclusion :( . I am still in the surgeon hunting stage. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am considering Dr. Terry Scarborough or Dr. Ken Hollis. I am sooo nervous but excited at the same time. I am so tired of being alive but not living! Hopefully I'll be one of the "banded" in April.

Both have good reputations. I used Dr. Hollis and I love him. He and his staff are so supportive and encouraging. Do what they say and you will do great !

I am similar to you self pay tired of existing and not living. I am chosing dr. Spivak. He is outstanding to me. I actually met a patient of his from 10 years ago. I heard good things about Terry. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
