Really positive support

Recommended Posts

I was talking with a good friend of mine on the phone this morning, and I told him I would be out of the office for a little over a week. He asked why and I told him I was having surgery. Then he was worried about what was wrong with me and finally, to keep him from imagining something awful, I told him I was having weight loss surgery. He was so supportive that it made me cry...told me he thought it was a courageous decision and that he would pray for me that it went well and call me after the surgery. We've never talked about my weight problem, although we've talked about nearly everything else you can imagine. He's going to research it online to see what it's all about (he's thin).

I hadn't planned to tell him, just wait and see if he noticed changes over time, but now I'm glad I did. It's nice to know that someone whose opinion I really respect is glad for me that I'm doing this. It was a real affirmation of my decision from someone very important to me.

Emily

I think that's how you can tell who your true friends are. I had various responses to the news from different people, and the ones who reacted like your friend are the ones who have been true friends all along. Hang on to this one!

That is great Emily!

I agree. In life God will open a door for us... if we answer it we may get a pleasant surprise. If we don't ... we may be passing up something wonderful in our lives.

As I sit at my computer this morning looking out onto the beautiful blue ocean... I am so grateful!

Wish me luck... surgery is this Thursday! My New birth date should be JANUARY 12

I"m proud of you for taking the risk to be honest with your friend. I know it is hard. When I have told people, I have only experienced truly positive support, and I am so thankful! Good for you! Cindy

Good for you seeking support and affirmation of your decision and a friend to have along the way as you go on the journey can only be positive for you.

Good luck and take care - please let us know how you do.

Nancy

I'm so happy to hear that you have a good friend who is so willing to understand what you are going through. I agree with everyone else, he's definately a keeper!

Congratulations on your upcoming birthdate by the way!

That is fantastic! I too had a friend find out (only this was by accident I didn't choose to tell them) and it has been great to have the support (even though they didn't agree with my decision) and be able to talk to them about it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
