Diet Pepsi/ carbonated drinks

Recommended Posts

I am confused as to why, again, we can't have carbonated beverages.....believe it or not, when I drink a diet coke in the morning...it clears out all of my mucus, due to asthma, and I feel much better. My surgery was Jan 18th, but I did cheat and have like one diet coke per week. Let me know what your surgeons or dieticians have told you. Thanks!!!

I have not had surgery yet but more than once my surgeon and nutritionist have told me that we can't have carbonated drinks because they expand in the stomach and can stretch your pouch.

the gas build up and putting pressure on the band and pouch. Though I have read where there are a few folks who can tolerate a small amount of carbonated beverages. I gave up my diet pepsi after I was banded.

Thanks so much......guess my brain skipped over that info since I didn't want to hear it. All I need is a stretched pouch! LOL Good luck with your surgery. I am only 40 days out; lost 24 lbs, but wish it were more; my surgeon is happy, though, with the results so far. Take care!

Hi:

I have diet coke on occasion, but I stir alot of the carbonation out before I drink it. Quite often I open a can of diet coke and leave it in the fridge all day. Then I can drink it at night. My doctor says it's fine to drink diet soda as long as it doesn't bother you. Personally speaking, if I don't get enough of the carbonation out it comes back up  . There's just not enough room for alot of bubbles down there.

Thank you Sue-----you know I have never yet had something come back up.....some one told me that when they didn't chew up a piece of watermelon enough...that they threw it back up; guess I have not had the pleasure yet. LOL. Thanks.....I thought perhaps the carbonation ruined the band some how; my only symptoms lately has been burping more than usual....otherwise all is fine except my port area still hurts; but I sleep on my tummy, oh well. Thanks guys for the responses! God bless, Cheri

My Doctor said none at all. And I am about 20 months out and have not had any at all. If I can give it up you can too. It is so bad for you, not worth taking a chance for.

Has anyone seen "Cola" flavored water? I could do that.

My surgeon had the surgery himself and drinks soda - personally I can't tolerate it

My info pack listed diet soda as a "can have". I am sitting here sipping on a diet pepsi now. It makes me gurgle now i have good restriction and i have to be really careful or i might throw it back up, but on occasion i crave it so i have it. i can only manage 1/2 cup of any liquid and need to make sure my pouch is fairly empty first.

Mine says no carbonated beverages at all. I tried to take a drink of my husbands diet coke the other day and it burnt so bad, I'm glad I quit drinking pop and have no desire to try to take a sip of his pop again???„

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
