Should I get an unfill?

Recommended Posts

I am going to my surgeon today, and I think I'm going to ask for an unfill. I will ask his advice, of course. I have had many of the signs of overfill: discomfort while eating, sliming/regurgitating, poor food choices, poor weight loss, have had a few night coughs.

But BECAUSE I haven't really been losing weight since this last fill (it's been about 10 weeks and I've lost about 5 pounds), I'm nervous that an unfill will stall weight loss even more.

My head says unfill, but will this help me get my weight loss back on track? I've never had an unfill and I don't know what to expect.

I am going on 3/1 to have some liquid removed. I know I am past restriction. I am sliming, have severe acid reflux, can't sleep at night, gurgle all day long, have pain when I swallow my pills that are cut in 6th etc. I would have gone in sooner if my doctor wasn't on vacation. I had my last fill on 12/22/10 and didn't star feeling discomfort until the end of January. It just keeps getting worse daily. Good luck to you and make the healthy choice.

I would talk to your doctor for sure. As long as you are taking small bites and chewing well, eating shouldn't be uncomfortable. Regurgitation is also not something that should be happening. I think your just a little too tight. Good luck!

The night coughs would be a good sign that you are a bit too tight. All the other stuff makes you think things like maybe not chewing enough.......yada yada.

You would be very surprised at how much better things can be if you just get a very tiny bit taken out, like .2cc. If they take out a full cc or even .5 then sometimes you feel like you need a fill too soon. I hope it gets better for you no matter what you and the doc go with.:)

So glad you're feeling better. I haven't had a fill yet so I couldn't really help. Good Luck

actually, having an unfill could help you start losing weight again. you need to eat to lose weight (the healthy way). when you're overfilled, you eat less because you're afraid to eat. just concentrate on Protein and Water and you'll start losing again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
