Pre-op Eating amount (no fills yet)

So i am on week 4 of my whole lap band experience (2 weeks liquid pre-op diet, 1-week post op liquid, 1-week soft/mushies). I have lost almost 40lbs since i started and it feels great. Weight loss has slowed a little lately but i'm not too worried. What i am worried about is the amount of food i am allowed to consume while still unrestricted. When i was on liquids (post-op) i was allowed 4-6oz every 2 hours or more. Suprisingly i did just fine on that, i mean i still got hungry at times but then i just poured myself 6 oz of strained cream of chicken and ate it over the course of 20-30 minutes as directed by my post op instructions and i was good for a few hours. This week i am allowed to start having soft foods (yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, ricotta cheese, etc..) but i am only allowed 1/4-1/2 a cup of food according to my sheet. Well i have been sticking to it but 30- 40 minutes later i am hungry and my stomach is growling. Now i have been good. I never cheated once on liquids which was amazing and i pride myself on that. I feel it shows that i am ready to change my life. My problem though is that i am still hungry and i have another 90 minutes to go before i can eat. So my question to those of you that are doing this or have done it is how much do you eat? I was thinking about eating more to feel more satisfied, but last thing i want to do is to start restretching my stomach. I have been really good and i am seeing my surgeon Tuesday so i was going to ask him the same question anyways but i figured what the Hell i'll ask here too. I was even thinking about going back to my liquid diet protien shakes since they kept me fuller longer. I'm very confused and it gets a little annoying some times trying to stick to the post-op instructions.

I don't really have an answer for you. You are entering what is lovingly called Bandster Hell. I also religously followed my post op diet. Since hitting mushies and solids I've measured out my Protein and always choose lean Protein and mostly raw veggies (I live alone and rather eat raw than cooked). I am 6 months post op and have only lost 34 pounds and I exercise an hour a day seven days a week.

Anyway. My doctor prefers that you gut it out eating 3 small meals a day and use will power. My Nut said it's okay to have a low cal/fat, high protein snack if you have a long period between lunch and dinner (that's when I go to the gym).

Im in week 3 mushie food, I also some days get hungry before my next meal my Dr. tells me to drink more fluids; Water, tea, Jello, clear broths. I usually have Water or a Jello and just try to work through the hunger!! Its hard but hoping when I get a fill it will help!

I've been sticking to about 1/2 to 2/3 cup per meal.

yep... Bandster Hell.

i want to say not to be worried if you eat over the 1/2 cup food because you don't have restriction but i don't want anyone to yell at me : )

its hard right now because your healing and you have no restriction so you're hungry like you would have been before surgery.

just be aware, if you increase to 3/4 or 1 cup of food, you might gain a few pounds back!

I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm in my second week of post op and I'm hungry alot of the times. I try to drink alot of Water. I forgot about the Jello so thats a great reminder, thanks. I'm just trying to tough it out between meals.

      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
