So tired in the evenings!

Recommended Posts

Hi - I had my surgery on January 5th, 2011, and have noticed that I am ridiculously tired in the evenings. Now I will admit that I have a 2 year old who gets up very early (usually before 6 am) - but that is nothing new for me since he has always been an early riser. I am getting a minimum of 60 gms of Protein a day (more like 70-80) and have been trying to keep my diet realtively low carb. I thought that maybe it was the low carb thing, but even if I eat more carbs I am still dozing off by 8pm! It's terrible! I should also note that I have been excersicing too - I am doing 33 minutes of cardio every other day. Any thoughts? I need more energy, STAT!!!

Thanks in advance for your responses -

Angela

I don't have any advice, but I am having the same issue. I can't stay awake past 9pm lately - I'm an early riser too due to kids too and at night, I'm exhausted. My surgery was on 12/15/10 and the first few weeks, I chalked it up to post surgery, but now I'm starting to get concerned. I rely on the 2 hours at night to get stuff done while my kids are sleeping. Now, I'm falling asleep on the couch which I NEVER did. I, also, am getting 70-80 gms of Protein in day and taking multi-vits and Vit D, so I don't know what the issue is.

Anyone out there have any thoughts???

Maybe your Vitamin D is low? Are you taking a MV? Either way a busy day will drain anyone so..

Hmmm - I take 50,000 IU of Vitamin D once a week, so I don't think that is the case - guess I better call my NUT.... :/

I was having the same problem until I started eating a thomas' whole grain bagle thin in the morning. My body NEEDS some carbs!

it sounds like maybe your body just needs to recover from major surgery :) dont stress about it and get your rest.

I went through this. After 3 - 4 weeks, I started feeling normal again. I'm still trying to get back into my pre-surgery routine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
