January 2011 Bandsters - Where are you?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My name is Vicki. I just got the band 2 days ago. I checked this board right before my surgery but didn't see anyone sign up for January 2011. I'm guessing there are more out there than just me or perhaps you can guide me to the right place to get in touch with other "newbies". There are no support groups anywhere near where I live so am pretty dependant on the online stuff. Looking forward to hearing from others.

Thanks,

Vicki

Hi Vicki,

I got banded yesterday Friday the 28th. Still pretty sore but able to move around the house alright.

Not hungry in the least but cotton mouth real bad, just sipping Water.

A friend of mine had this done a month ago, she says the pain goes away after about two days.

Like you, looking forward to hearing from other newbies.

Lori

That pain and sore discomfort is from where they sutured the port to your muscle. =)

Hi January bandsters!

As I read through your posts, I feel like a big cry-baby!

I was banded Friday, the 28th... along with having an unexpected hiatal hernia repair. I was having too much pain and nausea to go home (12 and 10 year old boys... hubby living in Japan)... so I stayed overnight. In my opinion, the meds ordered for pain and nausea were less than optimal... and I had a mean-spirited roomy that kept her tv blasting all night :cryin:

I've been home for less than 24 hours now... STILL a good bit of nausea and pain.

By the time I got all my usual morning pills down (one at a time), the thought of consuming any more liquids completely freaked me out.:hurt:

I'm not typically one to 'panic' in the face of adversity, but I definitely could have used some Xanax a couple hours ago!

I just crawled back into bed and prayed. A lot.

Feeling a little better now (Thank God for Phenergan and Lortab), but I can't imagine driving myself to the doc's office tomorrow to get this local anesthetic drip device removed

And to think...when the doc came into my room yesterday to discharge me, he said "seriously, you should be able to drive yourself home today and resume your normal activities."

I wanted to punch him in the kisser :cursing:

He was not very sympathetic...not at all, actually. I guess he's into the "tough love" way of doing things. I'm not. I'm not like 'everyone else'... I guess I'm special :ack2:

Thanks for listening!

Hi Carollee,

I was banded same day as you, I still have quite a bit of pain and swelling.

It is a little worse than I thought it would be. I don't have any nausia just sorness.

I'm mostly drinking Water and chicken broth in small sips.

Tomorrow I will try some V8 or maybe cream of chicken Soup put through the blender and then strained.

That's great that you get to advance your diet already...

My doc insists on Clear Liquids for the first week... then full liquids for another, PLUS another week of full liquids because of the hernia repair :confused3:

not too sure if I'm going to be able to hand for that long...

Let me know how your diet is progressing :wink3:

Hope you are feeling better. I stayed over night too and had a morphine pump for the pain but it was removed the morning after. Then it was liquid loritab 7.5. I cant believe they let you drive home. I had to have someone there to drive me home before they would discharge me. Hope the kids are taking it easy on you and dont worry after the first week you should start to feel tons better.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
