Recommended Posts

Went to my surgeon's office today to weigh in and pick up my Optifast. I start 5 shakes a day with Clear Liquids tomorrow. 2 weeks until surgery! I'm looking at the next two weeks as a kick in the pants and jump start to kick fats ass!

Hey.

What kind of shakes did you get? I've only tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury vanilla so far and I liked it well enough. I need to start my diet on 2/.4 so I need to get myself prepared by purchasing the shake powder, etc.

We are almost there!!!

Buh bye, Fat!!

I picked up mine too today starting tomorow with Optifast 5 shakes a day. Going to surgery 2/10/11. Only bad part of the day so far is I weighed 4 pounds more than my last visit. I think it's cause I usually go in the PM and today was a mid AM apporintment. Because of that I skipped my 80mg of Lasix or I wouldn't have been able to make it to the doctors office. I feel for the ladies cause Water retention is a real bugger. Took the lasix when I got home and I can see that the 4 pounds could easily have been retention. Well the charting at the doctors will reflect the Water loss and I'll look like a champ in 2 weeks when the surgery is done. Just a bit depressing though, I am sure everyone knows what I'm talking about on that issue.

Well good luck to you and all the other Fe'bansters looking forward to the new me doen the line.

How is the Optifast...tastewise?? That is what I will have to drink also starting Feb. 11

Its not too bad you get to choose chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. I chose to get all chocolate and I'll probably hate chocolate after two weeks on that diet.

I finished day three today and the day wasn't bad, I was hungry mind you, but not too unbarable. The second day real hunger pangs set in and today thay are abating. I'm still hungry though...

Do keep in mind that an all liquid diet without Fiber will zip through you so if you are working do not assume that gas is only gas :P .

I think that the main reason I wasn't in any distress on the first day was because my wife took me out for a nice 12 oz. prime rib dinner with salad, bread and a medium sized baked potato for my last dinner and I was still full the next morning.

My daughter and son in law (both 1 year lap-banders) joined us and neither can do steak very well he can't eat lettuce or bread and she has a problem with potato skins. They both shared and ate a salisbury steak making sure they mashed it to bits before putting it in thier mouths. He lost 150 pounds from 410 and she has dropped 125 from 305. They are both still losing weight though its taking a bit longer now. Looking at thier success inspired me to go for it too. You can believe me that they had no will power at all when it came to food and they believed a half gallon of ice cream only had two servings at most. I am really happy for thier accomplishment and hope to do just as well as they have done. :)

On day six of Optifast, real hungar pangs have relented thankfully. My bowels while still noisy have stopped making me feel like I just returned from a trip to Mexico eating what the natives eat. BTDT before . Ten days to go and I have meals till the 8th and my surgery is the 10th seems we missed a day or perhaps it's on purpose for pre-op. I meet the hospital team on 02/07/2011 and I'll see then.

It's funny though I am not excited, thrilled or anxious at this point, like everyone else here seems to be. I feel indifferent about it, like I am an observer not a participent, It's bewildering, I'm not feeling at all emotional about it. Perhaps next week, when it's closer, that'll change.:)

I feel just like you! :) I am not emotional, in fact, aside from my initial anxiety, I've been downright indifferent myself and have felt like an observer too. I think that must have to do with the multiple times I have been disappointed in my life after being excited about a diet, exercising, etc...and now I'm looking at this with a....I dunno...realism I never expected. This is serious business, this surgery. It's hard to get excited about it when I know the mental steps it took for me to get here.

I am sure that once I start fitting into pants in my closet that haven't seen my hips in 5 years, I'll begin to get excited. Maybe. :D

10 days down and 4 to go. Tomorrow I go for final pre-op weigh in to see if the ol liver has shrunk down enough to make the surgery less risky. I don't seem to be STARVING now so I guess it's true that hungar pangs relent after a while. That is good cause in the past I never let that monster suffer ever since I left the Navy. So I certainly hope the 10 days of pseudo food (OptiFast) has shown about a 10-12 pound drop, per my home scales, but the only scale that matters is the one in the doctors office and for some reason they frown on a nude fat man standing on the scale like I do at home. :P My appointment is 2:30PM and I have to be fasting 6 hours for the preop workup at the hospital. Heck by 2:30 I would have just finished shake #3 of 5 so that 24oz of shake won't be on the scale. After the weigh in its off to the hospital conviently placed right next door to the doctors office. There i'll be poked, prodded and x-rayed I am sure. Thursday is the big day and once again my scheduled time is 2:30PM also fasting so I guess I should look at that as a jump on the weight loss. I am supposed to stay overnight and I will just cause I do indeed want to get whatever pain ablation I can, the heck with that grin and bear it stuff. If I was a girl and having a kid I would at the first contraction be yelling for pain blockers. There should be no need to suffer and I want IV anti nausea cause every time I go under I get sick. Don't want to throw up my brand new band and ruin a brand new close relationship. The next day, my wife will drive me home and pamper me as much as I allow her to :) All in all an adventurous week in store for me and the other 02/10/2011 bandsters 1 or 2 listed on the Feb 2011 Bandsters I understand are going to be at the same hospital on the same day. Well I'll try not to moan too loudly and just try to listen to my new audiobook to take my mind off any twinges and twangs of discomfort (The Med's will help, I hope)

Well if I don't post any more preop be sure that I will afterwards. I don't expect it will be horrible as this is far from my doctors first time out of the gate for this surgery. He seems confident so I will be too. Bye for now...

Best wishes Bigtom...and all the other bandsters this week...glad to know you made it through the two weeks of Optifast. I start mine on Friday and everytime I eat something I think this is the last time I will eat this for a long time. I'm okay with it but it is a weird thought. It feels kind of surreal that it is almost her after all the preparations. Best of luck to you and I look forward to hearing how well you did!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
