Part of me will be gone forever! lol I am ready for it to get out of me and stop hurting. It's a pain in the butt. Angie

Angie, our prayers go with you!

OK, I apologize up front for my goofy sense of humor - "pain in the butt"? ... are you sure you don't have hemorrhoids? ;)

Angie - don't look at it like losing an organ, I don't think gall bladders qualify. I had mine out in 2004 and my appendix, so I'm good to go post op RNY. I had a really hot dr too during the gallbladder surgery.

Your in good hands, your recovery might be similar to the lap band and you'll be up and moving in no time. Will you spend the night at the hospital? I did only because I get sick for anesthisa and I had a 3 year old at the time.

Ha! I like your sense of humor. That made me laugh. I needed that right about now! ;)

I would rather come home if I can. The nurses bug the mess out of you during the night and I wont get much sleep. That's how it was with the lapband. So we shall see. All depends on how I feel. I did stay the night after my lapband surgery because I was so tired from it and didnt come out of surgery until 4. So I think this time it should hopefully go better.

Thanks alot for your prayers. I need them right now. :nervous

I'M excited! I know you all have heard me talk about Debbie, my friend, and right hand,WLS person. She had the gastro stapling band thingy I don't know the true name for it, but she had it back in 97. She is doing fantastic. I invited her to join us on the 28th and she said yes.

She is the one who did my phyc eval, and has offerend to do a group with a few people. I spoke with Dr. V about her and he said she would be a great fit with the band people because of the restriction issues.

I'm 2 cc's now. I have my curves weigh in and measure on Monday. I"m looking forward to that.

Gotta run to Columbia.

Kim and Karen I can make lunch on MOnday as long as I"m back in my neck of the woods by 2:45.

Do you guys mind that I invited Debbie? I haven't heard anything.

I thought it would be a good time for us to ask questions to someone who has the personal experience and the psychological expertise.

I don't want to step on anyones toes.

Dianne,

I don't mind whatsoever that you invited Debbie; the more the merrier. I do have to forewarn you though, I've been crying at the drop of a dime here lately. I don't want to, don't mean to, but can't seem to stop it from happening sometimes.

Well then you should sit next to Debbie!

Hang in there. I think we are doing lunch today right? I'm coming down for it. Do you have my cell # and home #? I'll give you a call on my way downtown to figure out the time. I think Kim said 12:45? I just have to be back home by 3 the latest. Were taking both the cat and dog to the vet today!!

One of the best things that Debbie ever told me, when I was crying all the time, was that this is a process. These emotions that you are feeling are important and it is ok to feel them and let them out. So your not cracking up, it's ok and you/we all have to go through this to succeed.

I hope that helps a little. I remind myself of it constantly!

Dianne,

I'm sure Kim has your number. Yes, it's 12:45 for lunch.

I don't mind crying when I have any reason whatsoever for doing so. It's the crying for no reason that gets to me. My DH looked at me this weekend and asked if I'm OK. I burst into tears. He asked every so gently why I was crying, and all I could say is "I don't know?"

yup...it's all the process...When I start for no reason, I remind myself, this is a process that I need to go through..as wierd and awful as it is!

See you at lunch I'm heading down in a few minutes.

Yes I made it to San Fran. My daughter though is making me feel quilty as heck. She is still out of school sick. Though her fever isn't going as high as it was...only up to like 100 now. They call me every time she refuses to take her medicine so i can try to convience her. Tonight she was begging me to come home, I felt so bad.

I'm having fun other than that, and getting lots of exercise in. I'm been to the embaraggo (sp), Fisherman wharf, China town, the modern art museum (I'm not cultured enough for it obviously) Castro and Union Square. We took a bay cruise on Sunday, and then bought coats (we left them at the hotel and were freezing to death with the breeze.) Tomorrow I'm going to the bridge, the japanese tea garden and the legion of honor and the de young museum. If I get back towards the hotel side of town before paul get out I'll go to the asian art museum. Today for Breakfast I ate some type of pastry from a bakery in china town, it was good. I tried in and out burgers and it was alright, I couldn't eat it all...and zacks in charlotte has it beat. :) Then for dinner we went to a sushi bar. Right next to our hotel is a HUGE old navy and I went in there tonight on the way back from dinner. I got a size 18 jeans...and they were only 7.00. Well I think the time change is finally catching up with me, going to head off to sleep. I'm having fun but my feet are killing me.

Hope you ladies had fun at lunch today.

Melissa

Melissa - I am sure she is doing fine....Have fun and enjoy yourself. You go girl getting in those size 18 jeans...I wanted to be there by now but not just yet. I will be before long.

We finally bought a new washer and dryer last night. They are bringing it monday. I am so excited. This is the first time I have a NEW set...I always get the hand me down or used set from someone. I never thought I would be this excited over a washer and dryer. Ok I know I am weird I am one of those people who loves getting kitchen gadets for gifts. I just think it's so much fun.

Well hope everyone had a great day....enjoyed the lunch yesterday with Karen and Dianne. It was fun.

Curtis has his ENT appt this afternoon...lets hope he gets the tubes..

Happy Tuesday Everyone...

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
