Stomach Growling....I dont feel hungry...is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was banded on Tuesday Jan 11, 2011. I am doing wonderful. I have not been hungry since my surgery. However, I am eating to get my protien. Well liquids atleast. My concern is that my stomach is growling all the time. Is this normal. Is this part of the air they filled me up with. I am not hungry but it just growls all the time. I was hoping ofr anyone that has gone through this to give me their insite. I see the doc on Monday. I havent taken any pain pills because I have had no pain. Just discomfort sleeping. And of course bending over and what not. But NO pain. Thanks for giving me feedback.

Jessica

I was banded on 1/11 too! I don't feel hunger either - but my stomach is growling as well. there's lots of noises going on in there - so I thought it was all the gasses moving around :). I have had a few bouts with mental hunger. Just wanting to have that glass of wine or something to "chew". I haven't reacted to it yet - hanging in there!

How did you lose 51lbs before the band - that is terrific!

Well that is great we are banded together...LOL

If u are on Facebook friend me and we can comapre notes. my nae is Jessica Walker Alexander

I started my 6 month process in may and wasnt really trying. Apparently not at all. I gained 6 lbs. I was devestated. I was at my max of 339. That was my "AWHA" moment. From there on in I changed everything. They way I eat, what I eat, when I eat, and how much I eat. I was to have my surgery after Thanksgiving but found out I had a fractured spleen. So I was delayed till 1-11-11. When I started my preop I had lost 40 lbs. then I lost 9 lbs during 2 week preop and 2 post op. (how did you get that all at the bottom of your stuff. I know how to do the tracker but not the other info)

Anyways, Keep hanging in there. This time will go fast. I hope. LOL

Hope to hear from u soon!

My abdoman (not sure if it is actually my stomach) rumbles every so often. This is a different feeling than my stomach growling which is when I know I am hungry

I think my friends would be weird about it - and would discount any success I have. Maybe it's all in my head . I told one friend from college and she did not have a very positive reaction. I haven't called her since - not mad or anything, just don't feel like defending my actions or explaining myself!

I told my husband, Dad, brother and sister. My Dad couldn't hold it to himself and told my aunt . They are all really supportive. I will definitely message you - thanks much!

The hearing of your stomach growling and not feeling the sensation of hunger is normal for some folks. Your nerve in the upper part of your stomach that sends the message to your brain so that you feel hunger has pressure from the band. This may last for some time or as the stomach swelling goes down may not continue on. being that you are still on liquids, even though you are taking in nurishment it doesn't "fill" your stomach and along with gas it may be rumbling around. Walk, walk, walk and then walk some more to get rid of the gas from the surgery even if you walk in small bits at a time, that will assist your body in removing the gas from the surgery. I was banded in August of 2010 and I still have no hunger sensations, but will experience a rumbling of my tummy time to time depending upon when I last ate.

I have been very open about my surgery as I don't care what other people may think and those that I do care about I wanted them to be aware so they did not think that I had some kind of traumatic illness and start those rumors. The only person I did not share up front with was my mother who is dealing with illness and has always had a deep rooted fear of surgery. I did not want her worried about me, but did tell her afterwards and even though I am 52 years of age...whew she chewed me but good for treating her like a child. I have learned my lesson and have promised to not keep her in the dark no matter how scary it might be to her.:o

Congratulations to everyone who has been banded!:D I wish you much success!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
