I can"t eat breakfast, I can eat a house for dinner

Recommended Posts

My band is similar to yours. I am tight in the mornings so I have black coffee and then a Protein Shake. After around 10:30 it loosens a bit. lunch can be difficult, I just remind to take small bites and chew very well. And stop when the band tells me to. But I eat a very little amount at lunch and then Im hungry again an hour later. Then dinner is alot easier but still not like I don't have a band at all. I still have to be careful, but I can eat the easiest at that time of day.

Thank God. I had decided I was a total failure as I am exactly the same. vomiting in a morning if I try to eat and total lack of control in the evening. I have 8ml in the band but no follow up until November and it is freaking me out. I am terrified that I will put weight back on but still put the sugary rubbish in my mouth! I really had hoped that the band would help with this but it doesn't seem to have so far.

Hi everyone -

I know this is kinda of an old thread, but I just came upon it today. Every single person has described the exact same thing I have been experiencing. I've been banded for about 1 1/2 years. I lost 35 pounds in the first 6 months, and then NOTHING! I too can not eat any Breakfast, just a little lunch, and then can eat anything I want in the afternoons and evenings. This seems so common among everyone who has posted here - has anyone checked with their doctor to see if this is some sort of syndrome? It just doesn't seem right what we're all going through.

Additionally, if I wait too long between meals, it seems that the band tightens and then I can't eat anything for a while after that. I have to take a bit or two of something, feel really uncomfortable for about 1/2 an hour and then I can eat anything. The biggest thing I see wrong about this is that the whole point of the band was that we would feel satisfied for up to 5 hours. If I have to eat every 2 to 3 hours to keep the band "open", this whole thing seems pointless!!

Needless to say, I am very frustrated with the whole thing and feel it was a waste of money. My doctor is no help. He just says Protein, Protein, protein and can't seem to give any other advice.

If any of you find a doctor who has helped you with this problem, please post!

Thanks for letting me rant!

Geez it's sad that everything I've read on this thread sounds just like me! My band is a SOB! I don't know what to do. If I have it full (6ccs) then I'm vomiting all the time, if I don't then I'm munchin! I've lost more weight and inches dieting and exercising then I've ever lost w my band and I'm going on 3 years with it! I had all the Fluid removed in sept after I had a slip then was soooooo flippin painful ! And in the meantime of letting my stomach fall back through my band I gained 20lbs! I just had it filled back up to 6ccs but I'm really starting to think I maybe havin it removed. I never have the satisfied feeling they described I would have. What does anyone think of the sleeve? I'm in agony ???«

Hello All~

I am new here and have been having problems for about 4 years. I have always been tight in the morning and can as you say "eat a house" for dinner too.

I don't know if this will help or not but for me drinking warm things in the am helps loosed my band up a bit. Its kind of like the band is rigid in the morning for some reason.

Its crazy how much I can eat for dinner, like a totino's whole pizza by myself. But can't eat till like maybe 3pm or later. I don't ever have the grumbling hungry feeling ever though. I do know after my 4 years of being banded and being too tight, throwing up, then having some of the fill removed I still have problems. Someone once told me that if you don't enough you're never going to lose. If I went by how much I can eat at night I would say I need a fill, but then if I was any tighter I wouldn't be able to get down all my liquids in the morning. I feel kind of like I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. The lap band has definitely limited my portions but I sure do wish it had worked on me the way it shows on tv... LOL

This might not be the case but it sure seems like when I'm stressed, its tighter and I eat less. Does anyone notice that?

Thanks... glad to be here to have someone to talk to.

Have a great day!! ;)

No eating in am! I had the band 2011 and I can't eat Breakfast so it is Protein shake and 1cup of coffee! lunch Protein 2oz and 1 cup of veggies. I can't eat all! I work out daily and I do love it! I go to gym 5 to 6 days a week! Some people don't like gym so go walking, bike riding, swimming, roller skating, bowling, DANCING is awesome cardio! I was looking to see if anyone had issue of not being able to eat in am! My problem is in the am the shake is hard to get down! Anyone else!

I started at 302 and down to 171.

I think a lot of bandsters are tight in the mornings. Once you get to a certain point with your fills, it is almost inevitable. I was pretty tight at one point and hating life. I had a big unfill. Since then I've had two tiny baby fills. I'm finally ready to give it another go and am heading in for a big old fill on Wednesday. Anyway, I've been doing research about how to handle this fill. Here is what someone else who has been extremely successful with the band does. After I finish post-fill liquid stage, I'm going to give it a shot.

6 "meals"

1) hot drink with Protein - tea or coffee with milk, or warm Protein Drink

2) Greek yogurt

3) One egg, or one string cheese, or another hot drink with Protein

4) Firm protein meal #1 (fish, ground meat, lunchmeat, shrimp, etc)

5) Firm protein meal #2 with small salad if you want

6) Protein Drink or milk or sugar free hot cocoa

It appears to me that the person who follows this plan is allowing her band to "warm up" if you will. Something warm and liquid, then super soft, then a little more firm, then the next time to eat you attempt a solid. That should put it a bit later in the day.

Not sure if this will work, but I'm going to give it a try.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
