Pre op diet...I keep cheating

Recommended Posts

Hi....So I am getting banded on the 11th of January. I keep cheating with little things. I don't know why. I have done so well over the past 6 months losing 42 lbs. I think it is because I CANT have anything. Not that I have cheated over the past 6 months but I do let my self have a treat. That is why I think I have done well. But now, I CANT, and its driving me crazy. I have 8 days. Anything I can do to salvage this?

How are you cheating? What is allowed on your pre-op?

Well I get 2 carnation protien shakes and a 300-400 calorie meal for dinner. That is all. I had a couple hershey kisses and a bite of my kids sandwich. Feel so guilty!

One thing I will continue even though I don't have to stay on Clear liquids anymore...is Jello. I take a cup of sugar free Jello, put a little light whip cream on top and it really helps with hunger, plus it's only 25 calories WITH the whipped cream on top--Try that when you feel like you must must cheat and see if it helps.

You can do this!! Get committed and stay committed! You'll be ok!

I had to lose 10 percent in 8 weeks before surgery which works out to be about 4 pounds a week. I will admit I cheated alot but I only cheated by eating helthy stuff like steamed brocolli with lemon or steamed chicken or a can of tuna. They had me on the medifast (4 shakes and a green and lean meal a day) you might want to try that. You can do it! 42 pounds is great!

I know what your going through. As much as I want to not cheat I can't keep my mind off of food right now. I am soooooo craving fried potatoes and onions today. I love me some country foods. My mind has changed but my body has figured out how not to what the crazy food yet. I just keep finding things to do to keep my mind off it as much as possible. It's hard when you have three little boys who always want me to make them food. I wish I didn't have a kitchen to tempt me. :P

Monday is my final appointment b4 my surgery on Friday. I keep waiting for something to go wrong to stop or postpone the surgery. I will be so happy when this part is over.

I so know what u mean with the kids. My son has been out of school for the holiday and it seems like all I am doing is making food for him. My daughter is 2 and doesnt seem as verbal about food. Anyways, I am hoping tomorrow is a new day. And I have been delayed 2 times within the past 2 months. First it was a fractured spleen....then a doc did not send my records to my lapband doc. But now I am approved, had my preop visit and I am ready. Just hate this diet. AND NOT BEING ABLE TO EAT. Not that I ate bad before (Ive lost 42lbs in 6 months) however, I didnt deprive myself of the little joys in life. A cookie here or there. Stuff like that. We went to a friends house last night for New Years and had kielbalsi and skrt. I had one of my 300 cal meals. But I ate 2 choc covered peanut clusters. I feel like crap but I have to move on. If not I will want to eat more. I get on here and try to keep my mind off of it and keep motivated. Good luck with your banding. I pray things go well for you. Keep in touch!

I get banded on the 10th so I know exactly what you are going through. My diet stated the same thing as yours but my dietician said i could include another shake as a snack (who would want that as a snack) and/or yogurt or some fruit.< /p>

I also have "cheated" :blushing: by eating canned tuna or chicken (small amounts) just to have something to chew (add a little lemon pepper seasoning to your tuna instead of mayo). I really dont consider this cheating since i never eat the "snack" shake and my "cheats" are always lower calories and carbs than the shake. When i HAD to have some chocolate i ate a luna Peanut Butter Protein bar and it was slap your mom good. (I never though i would say that about a flipping Protein bar!)

I just added powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored in some chicken builllon and i actually couldn't taste the Protein powder. It helped the hunger pains and i only used 1/3rd of a scoop. Also, i heard another good broth idea is to heat up some french onion Soup and drizzle about an oz of low moisture skim mozerella in it while hot and add some Protein Powder (some people add egg white and soy sauce to make an egg drop Soup version).

I am not advocating cheating on this preop diet but if I do slip up I try to make sure it is low cal, low carb, and high protein.

We just have to remember that it is going to be so worth it in the end! :Dancing_biggrin:

We are getting banded on the same day!! I am struggling with this too!!! lately what I have been doing is when I feel the temptation to cheat I make my self and egg or eat some sort of Protein. And truly I just go to sleep the longer I stay up the harder it is to resist the cravings I was given the ok to add a small salad no dressing and low sodium broth and sugar free Jello and popsicles along with the 2 Protein shakes a day what does yours consist of?

Thanks everyone....7.5 days left. I can do this. Not as bad today. Just a bad headache. I wish I could just tke food out of my life right now. I have 2 young children so that cant happen. Today is a new day...nothing I can do about yesterday.

I am only suppose to have my 2 protien shakes and my 300-400 cal meal. Sometimes I do split up my meal and do a 100 cal lunch and a 300 cal dinner. I can have a cup of french onion Soup and 1/3 cup of fat free moz cheese for 95 cal. and 11 g of protien.

I was told fresh fruit and veggies if I need to. Its getting to be my time of the month and fruits and veggies are not cutting it.....Im trying to stand strong.

Either stress or lack of food is giving me a headache....

keep counting down the days.

I like that idea of the Protein powder in the broth. I may try that, having a hard time getting all my Protein drinks in. Yuck.

Just make sure the broth is below 130 degrees or it clumps. I can also add 1/4th a scoop to my crystal light without it really affecting the taste. If I start to add much more it gets funky. If only they made a powder that wasn't milky.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
