Recommended Posts

Is anyone watching these commercials for diets(nutra system ect.) and wonder why we didnt use the money to buy the foods they have? Did anyone try it first or wish they did? But, I guess I knew I would stray off of it soon from being able to have my dessert or 2nd serving of pizza! :o I needed something to help me limit what I eat. I can't wait til lmy side and back muscles feel better....they ache so much! I'm moving them around when I can. I wanna take my dog out for a walk again. I have taken him out in the yard but don't want to go further yet.

I tried Jenny Craig. I lost 25 pound in 4 months! It was really expensive I was spending 400 month on their food plus I still had to buy stuff that was part of the program. Plus buy food for my family. So I just gave up and did low fat on my own. But I put all the weight back on plus some. Anyway how r you doing?

I have spent hundreds of dollars on gimick diet products, they always worked and I was always able to lose the weight. But, I put it right back on, plus more.

This time I have invested more emotionally, physically and mentally. I've gone to therapy which helps me understand why I eat the way I do and how to handle emotional eating. I've already lost 33 pounds and I'll be losing much more. This time I'm going to be able to keep the weight off.

Hi! I am ok except for the muscle aches on my sides! I'm trying to stretch them thru the day. My daughter and I went to Vitamin shoppe to look around. I got some Protein drinks to sample before I get a pack. Are you settled in now with you're eating? Is it really easy to get in all the Protein we need in a day?

Yep, tried them all. My issues with food addiction were to deep, to powerful & to hard wired to overcome my eating issues without the physical help of the band.

So now I use the band as the tool it was intended. It helps keep me from being overly hungry and using food to 'medicate' myself through any emotional, stressful, or just general day to day struggles. I use it to sort of free up brain space so I can concentrate less on food and more on dealing with issues appropriately. The weight loss is just a happy side effect for me. Weight loss was my original goal, but now I see it for what it is, a happy side effect as I deal with developing a healthy reationship with food that doesn't include struggling.

So, yes. I did try it all and actually spent more than the cost of surgery over my lifetime on things that didn't work because I wasn't addressy my unique individual issues.

It is my personal opinion that this banding journey becomes most successful when it becomes a complete mind, body, spirit experience. But, that's just me.

I work each and every day at developing a healthy relationship with food so that one day if my band no longer works well or it has to be removed I will have all the mental tools I need to have a happy relationship with food, without overeating or using it to medicate my emotions. I don't know how long that will take but I'm working on it.

Yeah, I have done Jenny Craig. The food is expensive, it took me 3 years to lose 70 lbs, then I went off and gained most of it back. I joined Weight Watchers before I could gain it all back. I lost like 30 lbs, then started gaining and losing the same few lbs, and I decided to finally do something for good and went to a seminar for WLS

Yes I am doing good!! So far no fills an I am happy about that. And no I couldn't get all that protien in. Good for you to sample those shakes before u buy them. I wasted a lot of money buying all those shakes. One low carbs slimfast would last me two days lol. I still have lot of Soups as well chicken broths lol. Dont buy to much :D I love my band and I have no problem eating anything. I dont eat bread r rice but that by choice. Because I would rather eat my protien and veggies. I am down 27 pound 7 pounds is pre op but I am happy you should be feel better soon. When do you go on solids? Happy New Year

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
