Need a good lie for nosy people

Recommended Posts

I have a few overly nosy people in my life, one of them being my chiropractor! I've been avoiding him because I know I have to come up with an excuse why I cannot lay on my stomach or be twisted like normal right now, or why I will be 30 pounds lighter in a couple weeks!

This has really been causing me stress. My husdand and I thought maybe I could tell him I had a hernia repair, and am on a restricted diet right now (hence the weight loss). Does this sound believable? Or has anyone else out there had to come up with some creative reasons for medical leave and weight loss?

Just curios why you don't want you're chiro to know.... Mine was so supportive. The extra weught on or joints is bad for us....so any way to get my body more healthy was ok with him! :) I have honestly find that honesty is the best policy...and so many people have asked tons of questions and been great!

I must be too transparent. I tell everyone the real reason why....nothing to be ashamed of........and I believe healthcare providers should have the truth and chiropractors technically are healthcare providers.

sorry not much help!

I think it's because I know him too well and he's also a client of mine, but ironically I don't actually care about most people knowing, I just don't want to get into it with him right now. Funny when reading your comments though it seems so simple, why not just tell him? I must have a personality disorder...!

I wasn't planning on telling anyone anything, but I had to tell my buddies something about why I'm not eating all the delicious food at our tailgate for football. I told them I had a hiatial hernia repaired laparoscopically (s) and showed em my scars. They all nodded their heads and went about their business.

Maybe I'll tell em later...

I had a girl at work who had asked where I'd been, so I said I had surgery, and I was hoping she'd be ok with that answer and not press me, but she kept asking what for, so I said the same thing, that I had a hiatal hernia repair, which was not a lie, it just wasn't the complete truth. I will probably tell peope eventually, but right now, it is my thing and I do not want everyone knowing. I don't want to hear if they think it was a bad idea, or feel like I have everyone watch like everything I put in my mouth.

Your chiropractor is one person you really need to tell so he can use proper care when doing adjustments.

Friends and family knew weeks before I got it done. I ran into this while tailgating at the pinstripe bowl, a friend of a friend asked why I cant drink beer and I told him I just got surgery and he had to ask why. So I told him and he was helpful, he had a coowork who got a similar surgery. But the person at the bank asked me and I just said that I had abdominal surgery. I wonder if you just said "abdominal surgery" if anyone would have the cajones to ask if it was lapband. I dont think so becaues they would never risk being wrong. So dont lie to people, but its no big deal if they find out... your improving your life !

Before I had surgery I only told a few people I was having it done. After I was off work for three weeks and came back on a light-duty status, it was a bit harder to not tell people who asked after me. But when I came back to work substantially lighter than I was prior to surgery, they all commented on how much better I looked, and many asked if I'd had weight loss surgery. (I work at a hospital, so it's harder to hide stuff like that.) After trying to dodge things with some folks, I finally figured, "What the hell?" and I ended up telling anyone who asked about it what I had done. I don't care who knows. Everyone has been great about it, and some are openly jealous.

One side effect is that several people have asked me about the surgery, about insurance, and where they can learn more about the process. The ones most interested are people who seriously need to have surgery, so maybe by being honest I may actually help some folks out.

My Mom taught me to always tell the truth. That way you don't have to remember what you said. ;)

I wouldn't lie to the chiropractor. As HB said, he needs to know since it will affect how he positions you. I'm a year postop and I still have a problem lying face down on a massage table. My therapist actually made a small soft, somewhat flat pillow that I can place between my port and the bed surface.

Isn't your chiro one of your doctors? Why would you not want to disclose your complete med history to him/her? I am very proud of my decision. I have been open and upfront about it with my family, friends and coworkers. I very much need and appreciate their support too. I can't imagine going thru this and also having to fib or hide it, that would make me feel ashamed of my decision and I'm not. But especially you should let anyone responsible for your health management know about your lapband. When people don't want to tell about their lapband it makes me worry that they are afraid of failing and then few people will know what happened.

Cali...I agree regarding the chiro, but the comment about not wanting to tell anyone makes you worry that people are afraid they will fail...well that's just not fair.

I don't tell, not because I'm ashamed, but I just don't want to hear anyone else's opinion on it and risk peope who would either be verbally unsupportive or try to sabotage me.

I am 2 days post op, and I have only told my immediate family and in-laws. I told my boss at work and only one other close friend. I have taken off next week to recover, and as far as everybody at work knows I am just taking vacation. I don't feel Like having 20 million questions from all the skinny girls at work and having them police everything I put in my mouth... Which is what will happen. We have a diabetic in the office, and the girls are always critiquing her choice of foods and giving unsolicited diet advice. I don't want that so if anybody asks how I'm losing weight I will say I'm eating much less and exercising... Which is also true

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
