Hi!! My surgery date was 12/28. I also had a two week liquid diet pre-op. After surgery, I had two days of Clear Liquids and I am now back on liquids again. I can't wait for next Tuesday (01/04) when I go to the next diet seminar and get to start pureed foods!! Have to say, the two week liquid diet before the surgery was very very hard but since the surgery, I'm not all that hungry. As long as I keep drinking enough, I don't seem to crave any food. As far as the pain, I still take 2 or 3 doses of the lortab throughout the day for pain but the pain isn't bad unless I'm doing a LOT of movement and really only seems to come from where the port was attached. The other incisions don't hurt at all. I'm located in IA. Best of luck to all of us in the New Year!!!

Well I had my surgery Thursday (12/30/10) so far so good. The worst I would say is the gas pains but thats moving, thank goodness. They tell you to breath deep and cough, oh my gosh that hurts, but you gotta do it. I am feeling great, kinda nervous, but still excited. I still have to stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 more weeks, broth and popscicles are my "main dishes" I can have all the non calorie beverages I want in between as well as sugar free hard candy/gum. Thought I was gonna sleep like a baby after surgery but oh no, they were in every 15 mins, 30 mins, then every hour, ugh let me SLEEP!! lol I am really interested in talking to others that have had or going to have this done. If anyone lives in Polk county Fla I would really like to talk. I am married and have kids, not looking for anything just another lapbander. I wish the best for all of you that have yet to have your surgery and to those that have already had it keep up the great job and follow your doctors orders! Have a wonderful New Year everyone.

Hi!!

I don't live in Florida but I am from Bartow - right in the middle of Polk County Florida!! My father was born and raised there and until 5 or 6 years ago, my uncle still lived there. I love Florida - was myself a miltary brat so we ended up in Jacksonville, NC - now the home of my children too!

Wow, sounds like you are doing great!! I understand no sleep in the hospital, just went through a hospital stay with my daughter's c-section and some complications afterwards. Guess they figure you can sleep when you get home. lol

Are you very sore? I have read so many posts about the gas afterwards - I can only relate to the gas pains after a tubligation I had years ago. Most of those pains ran from the abdomen to up around the shoulders and I remember thinking that it must be what a heart attack felt like. Are they able to give you anything for it or does it just have to work it out?

I have my first information appointment on the 13th of this month so I hope to follow your steps very soon!!

Gongratulations and I hope you have a blessed new year!

God bless,

Jaleena :D

Hey Rueban! We both had surgery on the same day! I can only have Clear Liquids for 2 more weeks, the gas is the worst and the port site is what hurts.Coughing is getting easier, i did sneeze today, that was very interesting hurt like a _______. You have nothing but an open road ahead of you, follow your MDs orders and you will make it. I will try to keep up with your progress. Best of luck fellow Lapbander! YOU CAN DO IT!!

i had my surgery yesterday and am pretty sore. doesnt seem to get better with pain meds so i am guessing it is the gas from the surgery. i only had to do a liquid diet the day before and the day of surgery. today i am on to pureed diet. things dont seem to move well yet. i have 6 incisions. breathing is also difficult...i guess because of the soreness it makes it difficult to want to breathe deep. i had my surgery in charlottesville virginia. i am 41 years old and weighed 247 when i went in for my surgery. i am 5'3" tall.

Hi I had surgery on 12/30/10, I hope you are doing better. Im not in much pain, just one shoulder. Do you have Tylenol Rapid Blast liquid for adults? That has been a lifesaver for me. The prescibed medication made me itch!! If you walk hopefully you can get things moving. Good Luck!! I am 5'7" tall and weighed 278 at preop, i'm down to 269 today!! Woohoo! Keep in touch.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
