port placements

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, I read where some people have their ports in different places. Did anyone tell their DR. where they wanted it or is this totally up to the surgeon? Where is your port placed and does it interfere with certain movements? Mine is 3 fingers below my right ribcage. sometimes when I bend over like tieing my shoes it hurts because I bunch it up under my ribs. Is this common?

Every doctor is different. The doctors who place them near the ribs or right under the breast do it because there is less trouble accessing the port due to excess fat. Mine is placed right on my bra line of my left breast and it hurt like the dickens when I first got it. But I'm sure once you start losing more weight, your problems will subside as I know mine has tremendously!

Hugs

Mine is about 3 inches over and 3 inches up from my belly button. If I eat too much it hurts - I think b/c my tummy is sticking out and the port has to stretch a little.

Wow...weird that they're all over the place. Mine is much closer to the surface than I expected. I don't know where I thought it'd be; obviously it needs to be accessible. I was overall surprised at where my scars were - I was expecting lower on my torso, nearer belly button.

The good news is they seem to be healing quickly and nicely. I like to think my innards are healing similarly.

My incision scar is about 3 inches up and 3 inches over to the left of my belly button. My port is just below the incision when I am laying down. I think it is funny that when I am standing I can feel it higher up but when I lay back for a fill the injection site is much lower.

Mine is 2 inches above my belly button and slightly to the (my) right. I can barely feel it even when I'm looking for it, of course the scar helps...

Mine is between the breasts at the bra line. If I don't sit up straight I can feel it. No problems, very easy to find for fill.

Mine is just above my belly button and a little to my left. I'm only 10 days post-surgery so I feel it a lot. My port scar is still very tender too.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
