Well it's official! I'm being banded on the 20th at 7:15 am! About a year ago I started looking into this procedure and here I am a year later actually getting it done!! It feels great! I'm VERY nervous though. Not really about the band. I trust my surgeon and know that it will work. I'm just terrified of being put to sleep. See, this is my first ever surgery. Seriously. Never had wisdom teeth removed, broken a bone, never even been admitted to the hospital so I'm very nervous about that. I'm also not looking forward to the post op diet (yuck!). I also thought it was weird that I don't have to do a pre op diet. He said he doesn't require one except the day before we can only have a clear liquid diet. That just seems strange to me bc most things I've read or seen have said different. But, whatever! I'm nervous but very excited about the changes to come!

Congrats Amber, I too and having my surgery the 20th. I do have a pre op diet, but only one week, and I am kind of worried I am going to be starving, oh well, it is worth it. They did not tell me what time my surgery is, only that I will get a call to do the pre op tests and then I have to have an appointment with my PCP to have a medical clearance. I have never had surgery either, have had some wisdom teeth out, but only with novacaine. So I am a little nervous, but I am a vet tech (an animal nurse) so I have seen thousands of animals have surgery and 99% of the time everything goes well.I am so excited to start 2011 off on a positive note and hopefully be maybe at least just overweight (not morbidly obese) by the time I am a bridesmaid for my sister in November. My wish also is to lose enough weight where I can feel confident and join a martial art, maybe Taekwondo. So best of luck to you!

Congratulations to us all!!! I too will be banded December 20th. My doctor pre-op is the day before surgery is a lite Breakfast and Clear Liquids for the remainder of the day. I'm happy not to have to do liquids for 2 weeks. I have my pcp clearance tomorrow and my surgery pre-op on wednesday. I have had surgery before a c-section about 4 years ago. The scary part for me was being put to sleep. Good luck to you all! Let's keep in touch.

I'm also being banded on the 20th!! I can't wait!! I went to the seminar a year ago and now it's finally happening!! I've have to do a pre op diet for 2 weeks, so tomorrow starts the second week and so far I've lost about 4.5 lbs on it.. I go to my surgeon tomorrow for my pre op visit... I'm so nervous!! I'm afraid they find some reason as to why not to do the surgery... I guess I still can't believe that it's finally going to happen... Good luck to everyone else who be banded on the 20th!!!

Hey julie I am a dec 20th bandster too and right now I am on my way to dr. For final pre-op checkup....I am also VERY nervous that they will find a reason not to do it. I was scheduled for back in august, but at the time I was having some pretty bad depression/ anxiety and they pushed it back to dec 20th, so nothing is set in stone in my mind until I'm on the OR table! I have not told any friends except for a couple really close ones b/c I feel like I would be jinxing myself....my worst fear now is that I will get sick within the next week....that would be SO bad...as I sit here on public transportation, am trying to wash my hands A LOT and I even took a couple airborne tabs but don't want to take too many cuz they are chock full of Vitamins and I'm not supposed to be taking any vitamins/ supplements.....anyway don't want to jinx u :) but I WILL BE THINKING OF U ON THE 20th and everyone else that has surgery on the 20th. I much like a lot of people on here have been tossing this decision around in my mind for well over a year...and part of me still wants out, but I'm doing it no question. Its funny cuz exactly 3 yrs ago on the 20th I had 6 hour experimental brain surgery (5 hrs of which I was wide awake for) to help with the hoRible symptoms of my tourette syndrome....they put electrodes in my brain and wired them to battery packs in my chest, although they told me nothing was a given I was basically a guinea pig, the surgery has been incredibly sucessfull. Anyway, what I was trying to get at is this scares me much more than that did, cuz weight is something I've battled with since age 6, I was on so many meds when I was young to try to control my tics and none of them were helpful for my weight....I lost 80 lbs back in 2006 but then have gained back 110 since...I know so many people who are "up and down" people for their whole lives, and I just can't be that-it has to come off and stay off!!!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

I'm on Dec 20th, too!

This is my first ever post to this site so a little about me..

I'm going to Dr Synder here in Denver. it's outpatient so I'll be home that nite.

I'm self-pay...first payment went out today so that made it real for the hubs! blink.gif

No pre-op diet for me. Anybody with no pre-diet considering dieting anyways? like cutting carbs?

I'm 38, 5'8", 225lbs with 1 husband, 1 kid, 1 dog

I travel a lot for work (its one of the things I'm most worried about banded life). In fact, I just got off a plane from Brazil on Saturday but just got surgery date last week so this whole thing is very feeling rather sudden....even tho' I've been researching for a long time.

Just now starting to figure out my "to do" list

- register at LBT - check

- download myfitnesspal to my iphone - check

-pre-op appt Wed

-pack for hospital

- shop for post-op food

anything else??

I'm really looking forward to getting to know the rest of you December Darlings on this journey,

Chloe

I got a call today from the pre op office about scheduling my pre op tests, unfortunately I was at work and though I had my phone on me I could not answer it due to being in the middle of something. When I was done I had to go into a meeting that lasted a2.5 hours and by the time I got out, it was 7:30, so I knew they would not be there. So I will be calling first thing in the morning to make an appointment, and hopefully I can do it tomorrow or wednesday because I am off and I still have to go to my PCP for a medical clearance.

I went for my pre-op testing today. My surgery is at 3:00 pm on the 20th. Not happy about the time but not going to let it bother me. Just very excited! Doing well on the pre-op diet. Started a blog - follow me at https://diaryofalapbandmom.blogspot.com. I have been reading all these amazing blogs and it is so helpful. I think if I start one it will be a great way to document the journey. I am not sure I am as good a writer as some but will just put down my feelings and do my best.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
