Need a good quality, accurate scale, any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I was banded on 11/29. I want to be able to follow my progress and my failures (if necessary) and not have to wait for every doctor's appointment to find out how I am doing. Being overweight all my life, I have tried to steer clear of scales except at the doctor's office.

My husband had purchased a scale for the home a couple years ago but I didn't want to tell him that it was pretty pointless for me because it only went up to 300lbs. He still doesn't know what I weigh and I am still ashamed to tell him the truth. He knows that I am severely overweight but I really think the real number would really freak him out. But that's a conversation for my therapist.

So I am reaching out to all the bandsters out there for recommendations on a quality scale (that doesn't cost a fortune). What experiences have you have with accuracy and durability? Thanks for your help!

Melissa

In preparation for my weight loss, I purchased a scale about 2 weeks before surgery. I researched several and came up with the Eat Smart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale Model #ESBS-01. I was skeptical at first because it's made of glass, but to my amazement, it works great. It must be kept on a hard floor and not carpeting, and whenever you move it, it will recalibrate itself for accuracy. It cost about $29.00 from www.amazon.com with free delivery. It lights up too - I love it!! Just so you know, as with any scale it may be a couple of pounds different when you weigh-in elsewhere, like the doctor's office.

I have a weight watchers scale, it cost me about 29 dollars on sale at bed bath and beyond. Its very accurate and measures BMI, Water weight and all of that.

We have a tanita scale that we love. It's supposed to measure body composition but we've never configured it. But it's a cool feature. And it's super accurate.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
