Surgery Date Confirmed - Dec 21st...Happy New Year to Me!!!

Recommended Posts

...so, I've just booked my date with the surgeon for Dec 21st. I start my 2 week pre-op diet Dec 7th. Unf I'll be on liquid for my son's first birthday :(, but I just keep reminding myself what this time next year will look like!

I'm excited and nervous and hungry all at the same time. No Christmas dinner for me...so i just had a turkey dinner (I'm Canadian so it's not Thanksgiving for me :))...and I've had my fill, which really wasn't that much actually.

Any support, insights or words of wisdom are welcome...especially thoughts for getting through this pre-op diet with my sanity intact.

Cheers,

Michelle

Congrats!! Good luck to you :)

I was just banded 2 days ago and feeling better than what I expected :)

What is this 2 week pre-op diet everone is talking about? My doc never mentioned this.... and this forum is the first I have heard about it... Guess I'll have same results :o/

Only bit of advice I can give you is to think of Christmas dinner in this light: for this one Christmas dinner you'll be forgoing, think of all the amazing Christmases to come where you will look and feel fantastic!

Same goes your your son's birthday. I was recovering from my lower body lift when my son turned 4 and had just been refilled after a complete unfill. I told myself to remember how many more birhdays with him I probably have 'bought' myself with no longer being obese, and in the end, we had a ball without it being about eating.

I'm sure you will have excellent results Ladbug. I have 2 weeks pre-op on meditrim. I can have Clear liquids and broth and up to 250 cals of non starch vegetables. It's all about shrinking the liver so that the surgery is safer...I here it's absolute HELL to go through so wish me luck.

How are you doing now that you're finishing up your first week post-op?

Keep me posted on your success...it will help keep me motivated for Dec 21st

Feeling GREAT! 16 pounds so far and I'm at a stand still these past 3-4 days. :( I have had no fills and band is empty.

Doc said first fill will be first week in January as he wants me to enjoy holidays (I'm torn between enjoying holiday's or fill and get going)

Good luck to ya :)

you will do great! i didn't have to do pre-op, usually if it's not dr required, it's an insurance requirement and i was a self pay. there are no regrets for me w/ the band. i am a little over a year and a half in and have lost 170 pounds, if i can do it, trust me anyone can. good luck to everyone getting ready to get on this adventure!

my surgery is on the 21st also. Congratulations! i start my preop plan on the 10th. i only have to be on it for 10 days. this is so cool i am beginning to find others that are having surgery on the 21st. I too am excited, nervous but not so much hungry. A friend at church was banded in the summer and she is already down 80 pounds so i am really excited. Good luck on your preop!

I find your weight loss inspirational. I am on day 5 of a 3 week pre-op diet and it is so difficult. I have spent a lot of time on this site reading posts to find inspiration so thank you.

I am currently 388 (lost 9 pounds pre ops so far), 5"10, 30 years old. My goal is to lose 200 pounds. I am wondering how you were so successful? What do you typical meals consist of? How much exercise do you do a week? What type of exercise? Any advise you can give me would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you!! Mar

Tomorrow starts my 2 week foray into Slurpee Town in preparation for my Dec 21st surgery.

I'm in Canada so I'm self pay...this isn't an insurance requirement, I think it's just a way to reduce the overall risk of the surgery...so I will abide because I've got 2 little ones that need Mom at home. Can't wait to be able to run a little faster with them!

Congrats to all...and let's stay strong together :)

So glad to have met all of you! I started this morning and my surgery is on the 20th. I have 3 little boys at home and I need to do this to not only keep up with them but to be here for them. I am hoping seeing the scale move down for a change will get me through the hunger! And will be on this board a lot for support.

Wishing everyone luck!

Susan

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
