Thanksgiving Fears.

Recommended Posts

I am scared to death of thanksgiving. Ive been seeing a really great guy and he knows all about my band but he invited me over to his familys for Tgiving and I havent met any of them..xcept his mom. I just got a 2nd fill a month ago and I think Im at my sweet spot if not too restricted..I cant eat hardly anything. So how do I handle tgiving? Ive thought about telling him I cant go, I talked to him about it and he said not to worry, no one will judge but how can I sit there and not eat?

Another thing, since I got my 2nd fill Ive only lost 5lbs and all breads, rice, Pasta have become off limits. So really I hardly eat anything and sometime I have to make my self eat..Im just not hungry so why wouldnt I be losing more? Also it seems the only thing I can eat are the things I shouldnt eat. popcorn, candy chips etc.. I try to avoid these. Could it be Im not getting enough calories? My dr never put me on any kind of diet, or calorie, carb restriction etc..

Any suggestions?

Thanks

lauri

Yes, I think you may not be eating enough. Sounds like you are too tight. You should be able to eat at least about 4oz at a meal. You may want to think about having an unfill. That may solve your Thanksgiving day problem too, you will be able to eat. Stick to turkey and veggies and you should be fine. If anyone questions you, just say something like "I am watching what I eat". Enjoy the holiday!

Hi:

Make sure you put gravy on your turkey before you try to eat it as dry turkey could be problematic. Try a tiny bit of a few things on your plate.

Best wishes to you.

No, most likely you're getting far more calories than you realize in the junk food. If you are having difficulty eating 'real' food and are resorting to sliders, you may be overfilled. Been there, done that. You might want to consider a slight unfill depending on how long ago your 2nd fill was.

If you don't get enough calories, you tend to stop loosing weight. I am on a 1400 cal. diet. I figured out that even though I may not always feel hungry, I have to make myself eat. Even if it is just a piece of fruit.< /p>

If you don't eat, you really are putting yourself in danger. A short story of how I know this from personal experience. Early this year, I was too tight. I never wanted to eat and when I did eat, it would come right back up. I ended up in the ER late one night with horrible stomach pains. Turned out it was nothing but gas pains..lol. Anyways, since they knew I had had weight loss surgery, they ran a full blood panel on me to make sure everything else was ok. It wasn't. My Vitamin level were really low. So for 45 minutes I had this huge vile about the size of a golf ball full of liquid Vitamins pushed through my veins. It was the worse pain I had ever felt in my entire life.

If you are having problems eating or keeping food down, please go to your surgeon and have some Fluid removed. Not only are you not loosing weight and leaning to eating unhealthy, you are putting your life in danger.

You said your last fill was a mont ago, and you've lost five pounds? That is a bit over a pound a week.

Bandsters can expect 1-2 pounds per week. You are losing an average amount of weight.

That said, if you cannot eat regular foods and are resorting to highly processed, easy to eat foods, you might be too tight, especially if it is uncomfortable when you try to eat heathly foods.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
