Recommended Posts

I'm writing as we are traveling north- I live in very flat FL but the more north we drive, my ears are popping (I expect that) but my first time traveling with the band and I swear I keep feeling a snugness then a slight release and so forth and so on. Anyone ever have this happen when at a different altitude that your body is use to? Its also making me feel slightly nauseated.....just need a lil' help here to anyone who is willing/able to help  thanks guys!!

I'll let one of the more experienced Bandsters try to answer this for you, but I wanted to share an experience with you that I had one time... I had a cast on my hand and shortly after getting it, I had to fly to NJ for business. By the time I landed in Newark, my hand was so swelled that I thought it was going to burst the cast and it hurt something terrible. Luckily, I had pain meds with me and the swelling subsided after a couple of days. After I returned home, I contacted my orthopedic Dr and he told me that had he known I would be flying, he would have put a different type of cast on me due to the swelling that would happen at that kind of altitude. So yeah, I could kind of see something like that happening. Hope you feel better.

I've not traveled enough north/south since banding to experience all that much difference in altitude. I have gone East-West, from N.E. Tx to Tallahassee and don't remember having the issues you're referring to..

Sorry you're feeling slightly nauseous. There is a tummy bug going around here, hope it's just travel and not the bug. Might want to get some dramamine (if you can take it) or some crystalized ginger to suck on, just in case.

Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, my band gets much tighter when I go up in altitude.

I live at 8,500ft. When I go up tp 9,500 I have to stick to mushies and liquids. If I go up over 10,000ft I'm so tight I have to stick with liquids.

I live at about 5,000ft, and have flown down to southern Texas (almost sea level) and back and have never had any issues. I've been told sometimes the band can tighten up during flying, but I never had a problem (and had even had a fill a week before the flight).

I definately get tighter when I fly. I can actually feel the tightening while ascending. I have very little fill in my band and know that if I had more, I would be extremely tight and have to do liquids the day of and the day after flying.

Oh crud...this is kind of freakin me out since my surgery is in Phx and I live in Flagstaff...that is a difference of over 5800 feet in elevation  I guess it may take more fine tuning than usual to find my sweet spot then....I am really worrying about it popping like my ears...wonder if that's even possible. More questions for the doc for sure.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
