Calgary Banders?

Recommended Posts

Good Day Everyone :)

I know there is a support group on yahoo. But it has not been active for six months. Does anyone know of any lapband support groups in Calgary?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kristy: I'm just joining this forum and I am very interested in the surgery. Been researching online fr about 6 months and my doctor is supportive. Do I just book an appointment at Dr. Mitchell's clinic to get started?

I just had my first consultation appointment today with Dr. Neale Church at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary - he also works with Dr. Mitchell. I went through the Weight Management Program through the Calgary Health Region. He said he could do the surgery as early as middle of December! But I have a trip coming up to Vegas and have to cover my partner at work at Christmas, so I am hoping for January. Dr. Church was great - explained everything in detail and was very patient with me. I have also met Dr. Mitchell and thought he was very nice too.

I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz as well, in October 2010. Dr. Mitchell is also doing my fills. Can I just ask you what level you finally went to to make it kick in. I a already at 9.5cc in the 11cc band, it is getting really frustrating. I appreciate it.

When I was in for a fill in September Dr. Mitchell had said he'll be starting to do bands in Vancouver starting today, Nov. 8.

I wasn't banded in Calgary, I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana in 2008, but I've had all of my follow up care with Dr. Mitchell.

There is a Yahoo group for Calgary bandsters however it hasn't been all that active this year.

I haven't lost much weight yet either, i need another fill, but have not been working much at all, my band is at 6cc's. How much weight have you lost?

Next to nothing to what I would have expected. With the pre-diet and since, it has probably been 20 total. So since the banding maybe 6. When i hear about all these people who are down 50 etc. I keep wondering is it me, my band, or what. Just wanted to know if anyone else was at this quantity. How much have you lost? I began booking the fills every 1-2 weeks.

I am at 2.2cc in a 4cc band. I could probably stand to be a little tighter but this is the tightest I've ever had my band. I haven't had to have really aggressive fills to get tight restriction. I have however had significantly more fills than most do. I think I'm at 13 or 14 now? I've had to be filled and defilled quite a few times because of how sensitive my band/stomach seems to be. I can't say I have one set sweet spot, I've hit multiple sweet spots and as the weight came off, the band needed to be adjusted again. I am only ever filled .2cc at a time though so it has been a long process. My longest run at what was my sweet spot lasted about five months when I was at 2.2cc the first time. I then had to be defilled due to what was thought to be a slip (fortunately it was not) and was gradually increased back up to 2.2cc over the course of nine months.

I honestly didn't really see the scale drop significantly until I started weight lifting and interval training. That coupled with the lapband diet was what really made the weight start falling off. Unfortunately due to multiple injuries I have had to stop and have been on an eight month plateau.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
