Where do you get your Vitamins and what do you use?? The only chewables I see are for children or seniors over 50. I don't even see liquid vitamins. I know I could take 2 children's chewables if need be. Please let me know! Thanks!

I take the Flintstone chewables like my kids, just take 2 of them. no need to buy different ones. my youngest thinks its funny that i take the same as him.

That reminds me. I need to go onto those. We have liquid vitamins available here, so I'm thinking that may be easier...Those chewable ones sound nice though, but I don't think I'd be able to get them through my band.

Vitamins were discussed at support group this past Monday (Oct. 18) and the group leader (my doc's insurance coordinator & a nurse) said that the current thinking is that chewable children's Vitamins aren't appropriate for bandsters.. that they don't have the right amount of nutrients for adults.. even if we take two.

I don't know where she got the information, she didn't have any documentation, but this is something I've heard before from other bariatric nurses.

I personally take the chewable Centrum vitamins, but when I run out, I'm going back to either Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate vitamins.

Whatever you take, you should have blood work checked ever so often, either with your PCP or your bariatric physician. I have a friend who is banded that her Thiamine (a B vitamin) is so low she's going to have to have injections to bring it back up. She was on regular vitamins.. not bariatric. The deficiency was found by her surgeon.

They say that about baby food too.

There's adult liquid ones that I've been meaning to get...I'm not sure why they're not more popular.

there isn't the same nutrients in childrens Vitamins. I get mine from bariatric pantry...not the best tasting but its what my body needs. if you compare the vitamins and nutritional percentage between the two you will see the difference. Iron being one of them!

I would take the Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamens, and lozenge Calcium. Except they are the nastiest things I've ever tasted!! Seriously. Gross.

If anyone wants a very cheap price on mostly full bottles of cinnamon calcuim "lozenges" and chewable wild berry vitamens just email me at sekinj@yahoo.com. Brand name Bariatric Advantage. DFW area prefered... :w00t:

In comparing the labels between Bariatric Advantage's VitaBand and Centrum chewable multivitamin/multimineral this is what I have found:

If you chew 2 Centrum tablets, you will be getting everything Vitaband has (plus a few more vitamins/minerals) with the exception of Biotin and Selenium. Centrum had little or none of these. It is also lacking in some of the B Vitamins, but I take the Bariatric Advantage B complex small tablets.

Bariatric Advantage Calcium is virtually identical to the chewable Viactive.

My doctor's office said to take Flintstone's. I found a version at costco that is the same as Flintstones but much cheaper. It also says for children to take half and for an adult to have a whole one. Since they are shaped like dinasaurs I don't know exactly how you would cut one in half evenly. FYI I do have to take a Calcium supplement. I have had my blood done since the surgery and it fine.

I take the Centrum chewables. They were recommended by my Dr. I get them at Walmart. They taste alittle funky, but not too bad. Not as bad as chewing a non-chewable by mistake! GAG Got those out of my cabinet as soon as I made that mistake. LOL I also take two Calcium supplements everyday. I get the costco brand they taste like a tootsie roll.

I can't stand any of the chalky chewables, so I take about 4 to 6 of the Gummy Vites daily. I get them at Walmart. I also take a few other Vitamins, such as B12, Boitin, and sometimes Calcium. Boitin didn't help with Hair loss. I've lost about half of my hair.

I have been through a few types of Vitamins and kept not taking them because of the taste or consistancy. The liquid was terrible. I have now found powdered vitamins from the Vitamin Shoppe. Since i drink a shake every day for Breakfast I just slip them in there. They don't have a big effect on the taste although they do make the shake feel a bit thicker. But I know I am no getting these important vitamins and minerals.

I take a Vitamin capsule I buy at my doctor's office. It's powder within a Gelatin capsule, so it dissolves easily. (I have real problems with pills, too--so if they work for me, they'll likely work for anyone.) I order them from bmisurgery.com.

I also take fish oil capsules, Biotin (Bariatric Advantage), Co Q-10 (at my doctor's recommendation; I feel a big difference with it), and Vitamin D. On days when I don't get enough from my food, I take a cal-Mag supplement, too. I like the Schiff softgels; they break down easily with a warm drink.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
