I'll get this year's shot next week but we always get them every single year. I got the flu once when I was 13 and I swear I thought I was going to die I hurt so badly.

My kids get them also.

Never got one. Had the flu in second grade. I don't come into contact with that many people in the course of my day (no kids in school either), so the probabilities are pretty low for me. And I don't get sick easily.

Nah, I never get a flu shot and I can't remember the last time I was sick. Like emjay I don't have kids in school so I don't know that I'm really high risk.

I'll leave my dose to the young and the elderly. lol

I don't usually get one but I got one this year specifically because of the band. I figured that 24 hours of throwing up is of much greater consequence now.

The CDC recommends them for virtually all people and there is no predicted shortage this year. Most people infected with the flu virus are contagious for a full 24 hrs before they develop symptoms, so flu spreads quickly. The only way for us to protect our families, friends, co-workers, and communities is to encourage vaccinations for all. The flu vaccine is formulated with killed virus and cannot cause the flu. So that is my long answer to the question......Yes, I have already gotten my vaccination.

I do every year. I'm a pediatric nurse and around sick kiddos so need to protect myself and family.

I never have in the past. When I worked in neuro, I had a patient who experienced Guillain-Barre syndrome after a flu shot. The first time, it was chalked up to unlikely coincidence. The second time it became pretty darn evident that it was a response to the vax. Since then, I've read about quite a few cases of GBS related to flu vaccination.

Ordinarily I am VERY pro-vaccination. But because I was a young, robust woman who bounced back easily from illnesses, I chose not to take the risk. (My husband, OTOH, is in a high-risk group, and has always been vaccinated; for him, the risk of flu has always outweighed the risk of the shot.)

This year, I will be vaccinated. I got pneumonia the last time I got flu--and while I'm still relatively young and resilient, I am for the first time facing being a single parent---and want to reduce the chances of becoming ill. I have a child who relies on me, and as I stare down the barrel of having no one to help me pick up the slack if I'm ill, I need to protect myself as much as possible so that I can be the best parent possible.

But I will cringe as I get the shot, and worry that I will end up like Mr. B--on a ventilator for months due to vaccination-induced Guillain-Barre syndrome (fully realizing that the odds are very, very, very slight that I will be adversely affected).

ETA: And thank you for the reminder; I will make an appointment today.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
