September bandsters: What are your UPS and DOWNS?

Hi

Just thought I'd start a random thread.... to see what has been GOOD and what has been...well... not so good!

UPS:

- losing almost 12 lbs in 7 days

- seeing a difference in my clothes

- hearing ppl say they can see a difference

- being able to go through this with my friend

- full support my husband

DOWNS:

- the frigging gas pains!

- the nausea

- the back/shoulder pain

- I miss my friend... food!

- lack of diversity in what I can have

What are your UPS and DOWNS?

We seem to have similar ups and Downs. I was banded Monday the 27 th

Ups:

I've lost 10 lbs in 7 days

my family has been telling me they can see a difference

I'm starting tofeel a LITTLE bit better

downs:

the disgusting taste in my mouth

the horrible gas pains

feeling weak

throwing up from the pain meds (ouch!)

having to deal with the pain without pain meds because it makes me throw up

my back/ neck aches

needing help to do certain things like turning the shower on and brushing my hair

I want to chug like 10000 bottles of Water because I am so thirsty; obviously I can't

Good thread! I was banded 9/15

Ups:

-Seeing the fat rolls slowly smoothing out

-Being able to cross my legs better

-Being able to get into Old Navy 18's & 20's

-Watching the scale move down down down (lowest I have been since '04)

-Appreciating what I am able to eat (today is my first day of soft foods!)

Downs:

-Clothing is starting to look bad (too big) - bad "down" to have right?

-Accidentally drinking a gulp that is too big (hurts - oops!)

-Being scared to eat real food (I am right now eating my first food in two weeks for lunch) -I am chewing it to DEATH!

-Back pain from having to take it easy (I'm walking 1-2 miles a day, but I was used to doing more vigorous exercise the exercise kept my back muscles in check. The back pain is the worst.

- Not being able to chug Water after working out - I'm thirsty DANGIT!

- burping!

Banded 9/21

ups:

being able to breath a little easier

seeing numbers on scale go down

positive comments from friends and family

clothes are a little to big

downs:

Husband tries but does not understand the support i need

this stupid craving for italian foods ( my favorite)

the left shoulder pain

tired of SOUP!!

September 17th surgery (one day short of 2 weeks)

Ups:

I've lost 14 lbs since surgery (49 since started process)

I can wear my wedding ring for the first time in 6 years

My rolls are visibly shrinking!

I am down into the clothes I wore last more than 5 years ago

I look better in clothes

People are noticing, but are attributing to my hair cut

Downs:

My neck is killing me from having to sleep on my back

I had a minor complication with one of my incision sites, so I'm taking nasty liquid antibiotics

I miss red wine :drool:

Banded Tuesday, September 28th

Ups:

I've lost 21lbs since pre-op diet (started 9.14)

My clothes are getting loose

My face looks smaller (no more double chin)

My stomach isn't hanging over as much

My boyfriend willing to change his lifestyle to accomodate me

Downs:

Unbearable heartburn

I feel full but I have to take in Fluid

Restrictions to fluids (I miss solid food)

Neck and back pain

Not being able to be independent (yet)

Just got banded last week but here are some ups and downs

UPS: Mega support from everyone

Time off to rest and recoup

Not a complicated food plan

Pain from surgery went away quickly

Downs: Getting tired of the Clear liquids

Gas Pains

Cabin Fever

Fluids, fluids, fluids!!!

So grateful i did it, just want to keep up the motivation! Cheers to all of ya!

10lb loss banded 25/09/10

Self believe- i can really do this

Partner support

excited to get on the scales

not hungry much

a brighter future :)

downs

OMG!!! gas pains Arrrrggghhhhhhhhhhh

Neck pain

shoulder pain

rumbling tummy

Intergestion feeling

need looking after/ unable to do simple stuff

desperate to drink a pint of anything!

miss food like a crack head misses crack!

the fear of liking food again/ im a foodaholic

But everydays a school day and i learn something everyday, just taking it 1 day at a time :drool:

Hi Everyone,

My Ups

lose 19 lbs banded on 9/20/2010

walk faster, now have a couple of co workers walking with me at lunch time

face smaller

have new recipes to try(all healthy version)

love my doctor and his team

full support from family and friends

off diabetic meds

I'm happy:-):drool::)

My Downs

shoulder pain

sick of juice

port site a little sore

I was banded on Tues. 9/28/10.

My UPS would be:

that the surgery part is finally over.

My face seems a little smaller.

The pain pump did not hurt coming out =)

Pain has not been too bad.

My DOWNS would be:

My friend brought dinner to my family and I couldn't eat her awesome food =(

Left shoulder pain has been so bad!!!

How bad it hurts to move.

Being afraid of moving on to the next phases of food (still on Clear Liquids till Saturday 10/2)

Trying to stay positive and knowing as long as every day is better than the last then I am headed in the right direction!

Banded 23/9

Ups

Lost 9.5lbs

Can still drink tea and coffee

Can't drink more than 1/3 of a smoothie

Feels good to not be really stuffed

Heartburn and reflux completely gone

Can still eat chocolate

Downs

Can still eat chocolate

Port a bit sore

Out of breath from gas

The smell of pizza and bacon is intolerable

Don't seem to have lost as much weight as a lot of other people

ups:

i did it!

lost 6 lbs in 3 days :thumbup:

healing is going well

met some great people along the way

ready for the change

i can still get all of my Vitamins in [* you guys should check out gummy vitamins, they are good!]

downs:

weakness [im beginning to be able to drink the Proteins again so it's gonna take some time to get rid of these headaches]

shoulder/neck pain [now dying down thank God!]

stomach grumbling in gassy way :thumbup:

soreness on the incisons:sad:

i want some soft foods like yogurt and cottage cheese already :crying: [but i will not break! i gotta stick to the plan so im on the proteins/jello/sugar free pops/and broth for about 10 more days]

UPS: have lost 16 pounds since surgery

not as sore (a bit where the port is at)

didn't know that tomatoe Soup is awesome!!!!

can finally drink more, without feeling sick

my hands look thinner:smile:

DOWNS: the pain on my left shoulder:frown:

rumbling in my stomach

gas

Baskin-Robbins icecream (once a week)

Pasta ( I love pasta)

My ups:

Losing 12 pounds post-op.

Going through this with two of my good friends.

Possiblity my husband will do the procedure also.

Having the procedure go quickly and smoothly (2 hours from start to finish).

Not a lot of pain.

Walking without pain.

Shopping for new clothes for our cruise next April.

My downs:

Starting to experience gas.:thumbup:

Wanting to eat all the things I see and smell.:thumbup:

No support groups in my immediate area.

Starting weight 292

Current weight 280

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
