Recommended Posts

Am i able to sign something that relieves them of any legal issue if i get a blood clot or suttin. or has anyone hear of this? i mean this is a minimal invasive procedure i just dont want it out lol

anyone that has similar problem?

Hi racheyrach! I work as a nurse and we are always told that when ppl sign "wavers", they are kind of worthless in court when they are being sued. It probably depends on your surgeon, but I would think they would refuse..it's not only a legal issue, but a moral one. I mean if you ended up with a blood clot because they agreed to operate on you with your implant still in that would be a problem!

OK I'm a nurse too so I had to chime in on this one... I totally agree with what she said, but even a minimally invasive procedure puts you at higher risk for clots, then birth control increases your risk on top of that. If you're already seeing a cardiologist for what ever reason, it is important to also understand that certain medical problems can put you at an even higher risk.

Better to be safe than sorry.

My surgeon told me that I HAD to get off of birth control or he wouldn't do the surgery. I really didn't want to because I have PCOS and that helps me get regular periods, if I'm not on BC I won't get my period for at least 5 months at a time, it sucks but we gotta do what we gotta do. It's a small sacrifice we have to make in order to change our lives.

Good luck!

I was told I had to be off birthcontrol too. However, having Mirena (which still has BC hormones) "didn't count". Weird.

I'm an OB/Gyn RN and yes! It matters!!! If you want the safest procedure possible, the implanon needs to go. Your surgeon is being very safe and smart in this matter.

As someone who had a minimally invasive procedure (for endometriosis) years ago and ended up with 2 blood clots in my lungs and one in my legs...yes I would say it is important as I could've died. (I was on a birth control pill at the time) They told me when I got the clots that it was like a one in a million chance that it could occur - they were surprised - but lucky me it did....so now every time I got pregnant or have surgery it is a big ordeal to be ultra careful....so if I were you I would be better safe than sorry....I got lucky and lived through mine, but many people don't.

So I am curious....Should you come off of b.c. if it is taken orally. I am on a very low dose just to help with pcos and dont know if I need to come off before surgery. Will definatly be calling the dr. Monday to find out but just curious as to what you all might know if its just the implants or oral as well. Thanks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
