The last week was pure emotional torture. Between the funeral and my surgery, it's just been really hard. Yesterday was the first day I could keep fluids down and didn't have to carry my little throw up cup everywhere I went.

I've lost another ten pounds since surgery, but when I went for my post op check up this morning, I was very dehydrated. My doctor wanted to send me over to the hospital to get IV fluids, but since I'm finally able to keep fluids down, I asked him to give me another day of drinking gatorade to see if that helps.

I really thought this was going to go so smoothly after reading here, but good lord, was I wrong.

Surgery went well. I didn't expect so much pain, but it's bearable.

What's not bearable is the fact that while I was in surgery, my brother in law passed away. He was only 39 and in seemingly good health. He was my sisters everything and now our family is just so devastated.

Rest in peace, Jason Cobb.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your brother-in-law. I have just read your updates or I would have already responded. I will keep your sister and family (and you, of course) in my prayers. It shows us that we need to be ready all the time because we don't know when God wants to bring us Home to Him. I hope your recovery is not hampered by this huge shock. God's blessings on your family.

Oh I'm so sorry Paigey. Your BIL is my age--39. I'm sure it has hampered your recovery too. You are in my prayers. Wow, just goes to show you we never know what is in store for our lives. Everything really is in God's hands.

Well I have transitioned to the other side!!! I am now a Bandster!!! My day at the hospital yesterday was uneventful. I arrived at 7 as instructed, but never went to surgery until about 12. Waiting is not one of my favorite things LOL! So it was making me more nervous than anything. I came home about 4.

Today I am just very sore around my belly button area and hurts just a bit to take deep breaths, but all in all, not too bad. I am so ready for a shower LOL! I will be a good girl and wait until tomorrow as instructed, but boy could I use one right now.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me up to this point and I will certainly be calling on you more, now that I will have bandster questions!

Hugs,

Jane

Congratulations! I am so glad that everything went well for you. Keep us posted and make sure you don't get dehydrated.

I've been doing my post op liquid diet, but I am slowly transitioning to the mushies. I'm actually scared of the mushies because I fear I'll start gaining weight before I have my first fill on 10/21.

How is everyone doing?

I just had my first fill today and I am miserable.

Hopefully, I'll be able to keep some liquids down by tomorrow.

I do hope that you will feel better tomorrow. I didn't realize that the fills would make you feel bad. :w00t: That's not good. Rest and feel better tomorrow. Blessings, Pitpat

Thank you, PitPat :w00t:

I do feel better today, but I think it's going to still be a little rough as far as keeping anything substantial down.

Last night, I was feeling pretty poorly, so I didn't think to tell you guys the good part.

When they took my vitals yesterday, they were better than they had been in a long time.

My blood pressure was actually good instead of high, 108/62

and my pulse was down to 88.

My pulse hasn't been below a hundred in almost ten years!

If you can't keep anything down, you are probably too tight. My last fill was like that. I went the next day and they took out half. Then after a week and half, I was still have acid reflux when I ate. The nurse took out the rest of the fill. It was my 4th fill. It is not in your best interest to be too tight. It actually caused me to plateau for a couple of weeks. I am just now starting to lose again. I am thinking that I am going to keep this one through the holidays. I have 5.2ccs in 10cc band.

Praise the Lord!! That is wonderful news! You continue to be in my prayers. I will be "listening" for more good news from you. I'm sorry that you are feeling so bad and I do hope you get better in the coming days. As they told me today, "It will take two to three weeks to feel "like me".

Take care of yourself and keep us posted.

Blessings, Pat

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
