October 2010 Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

Well I have transitioned to the other side!!! I am now a Bandster!!! My day at the hospital yesterday was uneventful. I arrived at 7 as instructed, but never went to surgery until about 12. Waiting is not one of my favorite things LOL! So it was making me more nervous than anything. I came home about 4.

Today I am just very sore around my belly button area and hurts just a bit to take deep breaths, but all in all, not too bad. I am so ready for a shower LOL! I will be a good girl and wait until tomorrow as instructed, but boy could I use one right now.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me up to this point and I will certainly be calling on you more, now that I will have bandster questions!

Hugs,

Jane

Ladybug I was just able to take a shower. I had to wait 72 hrs after surgery....uggh, I hated it and it was the best shower ever! lol

Everything is going fine with me but I HATE HATE HATE the gas, I previous had my gallbladder removed and I didn't have this much gas pain. I feel like I have to burp but it doesn't come out and it hurts. I guess there could be worse things. I can't wait to be able to sleep like a normal person. LOL My incisions are starting to itch which is a good thing I guess...yay for starting to heal. I have a total of 5 incisions. YES 5!! WTF? 2 of them are about 2 inches long, one of them is for my port and the other one I have no idea what it's for. The other 3 are less then 1/2 an inch.

Anywho, hope everyone is still doing good. Good luck with everything.

They didn't tell me I had to wait to take a shower so I took one the day after I had surgery. My incisions were closed with superglue kind of stuff. They just told me not to soak in Water but a shower was ok - then to pat dry. Walking around a lot helped me with the gas pains.

I have 5 incisions too and the one where the port is is about 2 inches long. I know that they put the camera in one incision, hold the liver back with another and insert/position the band with the other 2/3. I think that's pretty normal according to what I've read.

It really helped when I was healed enough to be able to sleep in a bed. The recliner is just not comfortable! :)

I am to be banded on the 15th in TJ, and I just read through this entire thread. I wasn't nervous, or anxious about the surgery but now after reading all of this I am nervous, and I can feel that my heart rate has risen a little.

eek.

15 days till I get banded. I start my pre-op diet on the 15th. I have 6 days of high Protein low carb low fat then 4 days of Clear Liquids. I am starting to get really nervous about my surgery. I have lost 14 pounds since I began the process in June. Good Luck to all those being banded this month. Keep up the good work and encouragement everyone!

Well I am now officially banded as of 10/7. Im on day 3 and I still have gas pains in the chest and bad pain where my Dr put the port. He put the port not really on top of my belly button, but more like 6-7" above it on my left side.

I havent had any problems getting down liquids at all. The 40oz Isopure punch are great to sip on throughout the night. And the Gas-X strips are a huge help.

Luckily Im able to sleep on one side. Its just getting to that spot without straining my stomach muscles is the challenge.

We have the same band day :) I want to sleep in the bed so bad, but can't get in position without using my stomach muscles. Wow that is some serious pain!

I know what you mean! Let's keep our eye on the end result and just do what we need to do. We can do it! You are being banded on my birthday so we'll both be celebrating. All the best!:)

My day is tomorrow! Woo! I'm more excited about getting over this liquid diet than anything. Sure, sure... I'll be on the same diet next week but I won't care as much. :D

Wish me luck guys! You guys have been an awesome inspiration! :)

I still have the same pain like you. How I manage it, is I put a pillow on my side. I slowly turn to my side which hurts like hell. But once I get to that spot, I find that the pain is so much less. That's as long as I dont move around.

My band surgery is scheduled for October 20. Now that I've started the pre-op diet, reality has set in. I get more nervous each day. I've been on the pre-op diet for 5 days now. I start the liquid diet on Wednesday.

Well I dreamt last night that I called in to dr chris's surgery and asked to look at a band. Then I agreed to have the surgery there and then under local anaesthetic. And watched my tummy move like an alien was inside as the food went down the tube and through the band. But I didn't have any money with me and arranged to still travel to Belgium for Xmas shopping and to meet up with his wife to hand over the money. Was a very good experience and then I woke up. Hope to meet other bandsters 26 October at camponile.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
