I have visited with a Dr. Also visited with the dietition, and Phycologist. Having a physical on Friday this week and then waiting to see where to go from there. I am currently 5'5. 215lb, 28 years old, BMI of 36. Deeply depressed about my weight, hopeful to see what the Dr and Ins say about having this done. Any advice would be helpful....

Just a piece of advice normally insurance will not cover the surgery unless u have a BMI of at least 40 or 100 pounds overweight. Hopefully they dont give u any problems but if they cover it for u go for it I just had mine done the 17th of August and I love it!

Go for it!!!!! Reading your post struck a chord.....I wish I had of thought about it when I was 28 and not left it until I was 35 to get my band. I am just 2 months after my banding and I have lost 25lbs.

I am 5ft 5 and I was 212lbs two months ago with a BMI of 34.9% and deeply depressed so much so that I was prescribed tablets for my depression and was referred to a therapist. I did not want to go as I thought everyone would think I was mad...but he really helped me realise I was self destructing...I decided to take voluntary redundancy from my job and use the money to get the operation as my health insurance would not cover the operation.

Looking back I would beg or borrow to get the money for the operation the difference it has made to my physical and emotional well being :)

This was the best decision I ever made, I went to see a therapist and he told me it was time to be kind to me and to stop putting my life on hold until I was slim. I had destroyed so many relationship as I was deeply embarrassed and insecure about my weight as I had always gone out with athletic men who were very fit......I decided enough was enough and it was time for action.....

I am now 25lbs lighter and a whole different person.....I even went on holiday and did not feel self conscious at the pool.....I have started dating again....I am not depressed

I still need to work on my guilt about leaving food but getting over it slowly but surely.....Go for it....no need to be depressed your young and can benefit from the surgery.....it will help the depression, help reduce risk of developing stage 2 obesity related diabeties, heart problems and joint pain.....I wish you the best of luck.....I was you 2 months ago!!!!!!!!!!!........

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
