Questions about labwork?

Recommended Posts

 I am in the process of getting all of my paperwork together for Lap Ban surgery. Everything has been completed..Psych Eval, PCP letter, appointment with Nutritionist, Surgeon visit tomorrow. I picked up my labwork from my primary care MD and my Vitamin D level is 14! I have been on replacement over the counter for 2 months...will this delay my surgery?

Hi Jillian, I was at that same level but they gave me prescription for 50,000 units 3/wk for 3 mths. Now I take 4,000 daily. This was about 6mths prior 2 me starting on my lapband journey. My levels were fine when they did labs just prior to surgery. I have read that people who are overweight tend to have low Vitamin D & that also prevents your body from absorbing Calcium.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your post....my calcium levels were good along with everything else..did they check your levels in between? Have you heard of anyone being delayed because of a low level...My surgeon's office thought that I may be able to have my procedure the last of September pending Insurance approval...

My friend has low Vitamin D and she cant see the surgeon for 3 months until her level comes up!

My surgeon gave me a prescription of Vitamin D 50,000u 2x/week for a month and then weekly thereafter...He said that most people that are overwork have low Vitamin D levels...

My lab work also showed my Vitamin D very low but my surgeon didn't see a problem with it, just asked me to start taking some along with my daily vitamin.

My Vitamin D was low also, they put me on 1 high dose a week for 6 weeks (along with my daily calcium citrate plus D). I'm not really sure why they want your D to be normal so not sure if would delay your surgery. I would see if you can get the weekly high dose.

Also, don't get the liquid Vitamin D. I tried it and it truly tasted like poison, even when I mixed it with fruit punch. Was nasty lol.

I also had less pain once I started taking them. Probably bcuz Vitamin D difeciency also prevents Calcium absorbtion. So Not only did we start feeding our body Vitamin D but started absorbing calcium better.

1 more thing. My pharmacist told me that most people need approx 4000 units daily not 1000. I was on 1000 after I finished the 3 mths of 50,000 units & my Vitamin D dropped once more. I am taking 4000 units daily per my Dr. & have maintained within range.

My Vit D is also low. At the surgeon's office last week they told me that there are new studies out saying that people with low Vit D have a very difficult time dropping weight. That makes sense for those of us on this forum, doesn't it? The doc said that, obviously, they want good levels to give me every advantage I can. I take a multi-vit, Calcium w/D and then an OTC D, as well and it's still low. Next, they told me, are injections.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
