My doc is pretty easy going. He just tells me to "take it easy" for the rest of that day. Though after my last fill, two days later, I had some swelling and regretted not chewing my food better at Breakfast that morning....

But for me, fills have been weird. From the second one, I didn't feel much. Then two WEEKS later, all of a sudden it was tighter.

As I got closer to restriction, I needed to start being careful all of the time. (ie, taking smaller bites, waiting longer between bites, eating only a small amount of bread, etc.)

My doc says liquids for 24 hours and then move on to normal food, just "take it slow."

Protocol? what's a Protocol? I think that is a Doctors reply because it's the wild west out there in Band land surgery.

I am suppose to follow a 5 day regime of total liquids for 2 days then 2 days of puree and some mushies then a day of mushies and soft stuff then I can go to real food. We shall see.... first fill is next Tues the 24th of Aug.

They tell me soft foods that day and the next if needed. After that the rule is "take it easy". The fills sort of shock me back into banded reality at first. One PB and I am like "Oh yeah-have to chew more, etc."

Had my first one today! My doc says Clear Liquids for the rest of the day, tomorrow pureed foods, next day, soft foods, next day regular food. But yes, always take it easy. I've never had an issue with eating anything prior to the fill, so I'm sure I'm going to be very careful when I eat pureed tomorrow. I got to watch the fill and the barium swallow today. Wow - that was wild. You could see the underwires from my bra and the doc noted that the size of my opening (stoma?) was now about the same width as one of the underwires in my bra. OMG - that is so small? I could see (and feel) the barium sitting there, then saw it begin to drain through. You better believe that I will be going easy when I start to chew again!!! He gave me a picture of it as well - I'm going to keep it in my wallet as a reminder  I then met the nut (who is also banded) and I remarked about how small the opening was and she said it is somewhat elastic as well, so it will stretch to let the food through. I was amazed to see that much restriction with only 2cc's! I have a 10cc band, fyi. I didn't have any saline in from surgery, maybe a little from the "prime" that they do from surgery is all. I would be shocked if I didn't feel more full from now on after seeing that barium just sitting there on top of that little opening

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
