Concerned: Pregnancy after Band

Recommended Posts

I am a little concerned about pregnancy after band. As per what I was told by my doctor I would have to wait 18 months to get pregnant after being banded. I am currently 28 yrs old, in 18 months I'm going to be 30. I worried I will be too old to conceive.

I'm 30 and just had my third child. My friends didn't even start having their babies until 34.

I wouldn't worry about it:) With the weight you will lose that will increase your fertility also.

30 is definitely not too old to conceive. Many women are waiting later and later to have babies. If you were pushing 40, that'd be another story but I really don't think it's too old. As long as you don't have any underlying fertility issues, there's no reason why you can't have a baby. And just think by then, you'll be healthy!!

Thanks ladies! Its good to hear that. Everyone is telling me why I am waiting so long. But I didn't want to get pregnant at my current weight. But I want to have at least one.

I had my first child at 32 and I am 35 now. I had the easiest and no issue pregnancy and birth and I just got banded 2 weeks ago and plan to have another child in 2 years. so I will be 37. I am a little concerned but figured I will be much healthier now than I was when I had my first. My doctor told me I should wait about a year after surgery to get pregnant so Im giving it a full year than I will start trying! 30 is sooooo not too old Its really the norm now! good luck to you!!

Hello,

I am 43 with a 1 year old. Granted, i hadn't planned for it to take so long but, I had infertility issues and, my weight didn't help the problems. I had my first child at 35. So, the best things you can do to improve fertility is to get your weight, head, and finances together. Thirty is soooo young to me. lol Wishing you the very best.

JerseyDiva, you sound just like me! I'm always joking that my eggs are gonna dry up if I don't have one by thirty! (Thanks Dr. Oz, I hate your guts) But, I didn't want to get pregnant at my current weight of 257 and we all know that obesity causes fertility issues and high risk pregnancy.

So, I opted to have the lap band, wait a year under my doc's advice, and see what happens later! I hate that everyone always asks me whats taking so long too! How 'bout NONYA?!(none ya business)

I'm sure we'll be fine after 30, at least that's what I keep telling myself!

I've had 2 babies with the lap band. I had the first baby about 2 years after getting my lap band. After he was born I had a revision because of a slip. It was only 4 months after the revision that I got pregnant with my 2nd baby. My lap band did not cause any problems during pregnancy. Follow what you doctor has told you, but my experience was that pregnancy goes very well with the lap band. I'm 30 years old.

My daughter got pregnant about 6 months after she got her band. It was not planned but my beautiful little grandaughter is the love of my life. She had no problems with the band but near the end of the pregnancy, she had to get an unfil because she suddenly couldn't eat anything at all. She didn't gain at all during the pregnancy and lost a whopping 30 lbs after the baby entered the world. All is well with the band and the baby!!! Hugs!!!

I have also been concerned about getting pregnant with the lapband. I have a 4 almost 5 year old daughter and and I will be 27 next week. My husband and I tried for about a year and was not able to conceive then I got the lapband 4 weeks ago hoping that once I get to a good weight I can have another baby. I didn't want to have another child once I got close to 30 but hey sometimes decisions get made for you. I am terrified of having a c-section. Does anyone know if you are more likely to have a c-section with the lapband?

I have also been concerned about getting pregnant with the LAP-BAND®. I have a 4 almost 5 year old daughter and and I will be 27 next week. My husband and I tried for about a year and was not able to conceive then I got the LAP-BAND® 4 weeks ago hoping that once I get to a good weight I can have another baby. Does anyone know if you are more likely to have a c-section with the LAP-BAND®?

I don't think it is any higher than the general public but I am not sure about it. My daughter did have one. but it was mostly because her last baby was also c section. They planned to try to let her go ahead and have this baby naturally, but she was breach so they just did the section. She recovered quickly and she was fine. In my own experience, I thought a c-section was an absolute breeze in comparison to a natural birth. I was back to work doing hair in three weeks after mine. If you ever need one, do not be afraid because they are often the safest and believe it or not, easiest to recover from. Hugs....

I'm 31 and I'm pregnant with my first child. I was banded June 10, 2010 and by May I was pregnant. My doc is thrilled and gave me a slight unfill because my band tightened with the pregnancy.

There is absolutely no reason why I can't have a vaginal birth because of the lap band. Now, that's not to say something else would cause me to have a c-section, but right now everything is trucking right along.

I'm currently 17 weeks, i'm on target with my weight gain, and I'm happy as can be. So far, baby is too!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
