I couldnt vote no this is ridiculous because I dont think it is. It is such a hopeless, endless disease. I can well understand how people get to that point. You get cancer or something equally tragic and you have people's thoughts, prayers and sympathy, you get morbidly obese and you get people's disgust and disdain.

I've never been so fat as to stand out from a crowd or even to limit me in any way, apart from I'm starting to feel the physical drag of it. I've never been really self conscious or shy and I've always felt relatively attractive. I'm blessed to have grown up in a functional, happy, supportive family and moved into a marriage and my own family that's the same. I've never had a really tragic event in my life. So I'm stable, and happy and very lucky to be so.

I am avoiding reading this thread because it is absolutely chilling to even read the horrid title "Suicidal Thoughts" and it the first thing I see when logging into see the new posts.

I want to thank everyone again for either anonymously voting and/or sharing their stories and thoughts on the topic. I know it is a difficult topic and can be disturbing but I feel that it is important and interesting to learn the who we are/were then and the who we are now. I know that through this thread, I have a renewed sense of amazement and admiration about the struggle with obesity and self esteem. The stories that some of you share are not that of condemnation but that of strength and success that you are still here, still fighting, and still strong. I hope you all know that even in the worst of times, you have an outlet for frustrations in your friends at LBT.

For those that just kept to anonymously voting, thank you. For those of you that viewed but did not vote (about 360 of you) please remember again that NO ONE will see your vote. Please vote, you do not have to explain your vote in a thread if you do not wish to share. You can simply click a bubble and submit.

Thank you again to all of you.

I wrote on this a couple of days ago, and the bars where just about even. NOW, I look back and I see that the NO's are way out in front. Not that this is a race, but who the heck is voting??? I wonder how honest you fatty's are being. Just to make a point.... If you are fat enough to get the LAP-BAN??? Then you where killing yourself a day at a time, suicide on the installment plan. If you are fat enough where it is a question of health and welfare, and you choose to keep eating...... that is not correct behavior or sane thinking and acting. To me is killing yourself with food.

Maybe it's just my simple way of looking at this, and there other ways, but I just don't see them.

If you think really hard about it, we all took a gamble at suicide by getting banded. We all knew there's a small mortality rate during surgery (as with any anesthesia.) We all put our lives on the line, so isn't that just a little suicidal?

I think some people just don't want to believe it is truly anonymous. Some may believe that by admitting it on this poll somehow may make them wierd. Who knows.

I guess I'm most shocked at the number that voted "no this is ridiculous". I mean....there but for the grace of god go I....how can thoughts, seriously scary but very human thoughts be "ridiculous".

I honestly think that for folks for whom this topic is scary or causes them to run that they need to take a look at that fear....and figure out why it resonates so hard with them.

It's all about self awareness.

And I just want to stand up and applaud johnqpublic. That cannot have been easy to share. What a hard story and what a beautiful success you are. You wife is incredibly lucky to have a man such as you. You are very appreciated!!! Bless you!!!!

Jenna, those numbers are misleading. They are not unique views; that count goes up every time someone looks at this thread, whether they've looked before or not. 500 views does not mean that 500 different people have looked, just that it's been looked at 500 times. I'm responsible for many of those views all by myself.

I don't mean this to sound flippant, but I am more ashamed of committing suicide and having those who found me think my house was messy. Sooo...until I get around to really doing a deep clean, I guess I'll stay alive!

Hey Butch! very interesting and I hadn't thought of it this way, not really. For my DH, yes, definataly yes, but he reached 600 pounds. But not for me.

I guess part of the reason I never thought of it this was is that most of my weight has been because of medications, steroids through out my entire life. I am wonderful at maintaining a certian weight, but once I get put on steroids, BAM! I gain more weight. It isn't a matter of putting the fork down and backing away from the table for me.

I'll have to think about this some more. Thanks for the thoughts.

I have been through a lot of stuff trying to lose weight, (Just Like Most of you guy's). And one of them was going to a eating Disorder Hospital in Orlando, the name of the place was Orlando General Hospital. It was there I learned just how badly we fat people are trying to kill our self's with food. It's not an overt thing it more covert in nature, but killing our self's we are. I think it is good to look at this disease honestly and don't pull any punches, I know how hard it is to address this aspect of our disease, but it is necessary in order to recover (with the help of the Lap-Ban). I would image there are some who have medical problems, but if we are fat enough to get surgery to combat overeating, then there must be quite a problem.

As for me, there was no doubt about it, I was killing myself a day at a time. With a top weight of a whopping 600 lbs. who the heck was I kidding. In the last 20 years I have lost over 1500 lbs but never keep it off longer then a week without starting to go right back up. I am so overjoyed at this weight loss I am doing now with the Lap-Ban, and it is a great tool in order to keep me right on track. Even though I am not losing right now (because I need a fill), but I can't gain any more because of the Ban, thank God. I see myself as an ...................... "Enlighten Fat Person".

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
