Insurance Company Approval????

Recommended Posts

That's awesome! I know that had to be a relief after your experience last year. I'm curious, did they expect you to lose any weight for approval?

During the 6 month required diet (which I did for 8 months in the end) I did lose about 25 lbs. I gained about 15 of it back after Christmas until now. Because my original supervised diet was still within a year, they didn't make me redo it-- they counted it from April-November of last year.

I've lost about half of what I've regained since the beginning of the summer and I want to do as much as possible more before I do the surgery. I just can't dip below 255 or I won't qualify anymore

Oh, ok. I guess that makes sense. My insurance company only requires 3 months of supervised weight loss, but that concerns me becuase my doctor and I have tried everything already. I met with a nutritionist for months last year, i've worked with a trainer, I even tried the weight loss drug but I couldn't stay on it because it raised my blood pressure too high. If i could lose the weight on diet and exercise alone, i wouldn't be seeking the lap band. I stay in the gym and on the last visit i lost only 3lbs in a month. My doctor thinks it could have been more but i was severly swollen with Water on my feet and ankles. i'll keep at it, i just hope it doesn't stop my approval.

That's awesome. You don't hear of those stories often. Good for you. So are you waiting for your surgery or did you have it already?

I started a program in January, lost my required weight but really did not like the local bariatric program. Something just did not feel right to me. So I followed my instinct and found a program about an hour away that was a much better fit for me. Unfortunately, I had to lose an additional 10 pounds, but it was worth it. I am happy with the program and am awaiting approval.

Mine was like 2-3 weeks. I actually got a call from my "case worker" to talk to me about the surgery. So I got the call before I got the letter. I think my doctor's office submitted the insurance request immediatly following the first consult. My surgery had to be postpone and I had to get the surgery reapproved. That happened in like one day; and they sent me a new letter.

Hey there. You responded to my insurance approval thread and I wanted to let you know I got my approval today! It took less than one week. I have my surgery on August 17.

I notice that you are getting your surgery in two days! I am really excited for you. How are you feeling? Excited? Nervous at all? I will be thinking of you and since you are two weeks ahead of me I will be interested in your progress and advice.

Take care.

I started thinking about this last year at this time. I started the process in January and the date is finally set! I am so excited.

I would like to to keep in contact with you if you are interested. I am sure we both will probably need some support and encouragement along the way.

Have you started your pre op diet yet? I am starting mine tomorrow morning. Didn't even get time for the "last supper" as everyone in our support group calls it. It really hit me today that I am officially ready. I got the phone call from my insurance company for approval and hours went by before I even thought about eating anything or running for the last taste of pizza or Pasta. I am thinking about everything that I am gaining and not looking back. I can't even explain the feeling inside of me. I know I am rambling and rambling but I feel like this is the place we can come where we understand each other and no one negatively passes judgement. Thanks for listening. I look forward to hearing from you and hearing about your progress. Good health to you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
