How did the fill go?

Hi Girls,

I had my second fill Aug 23 up to 6cc. This time I get full quickly a cup size does it. And now I don't get hungry for about the 4 hour mark. Polly FYI when I had my first fill

I was very uptight and it didn't go well at all. But the second one no trouble at all. She is good and I would recommenf her if you decide to drive to Sudbury, she is an emerg RN and had a band also. I was stuck at 188 for awhile and it started to move now at 186:rolleyes:. Almost 30lb.

I try to eat alot of Protein first, I have also bought lean cuisines for when supper is a bust. Then I know the exact amount of calories I am consuming. I have a tough time around 3pm until supper and I always have.:o

Hi CJF! I bet you we go to the same RN for our fills. She pulled out about 4 but only added a 1/2.....am wondering, what was the point as I don't feel any different. Even had a 100 calorie packet of Smart food white cheddar popcorn last night before bed! (Thank God for those portion controlled Lean Cuisine & 100 calorie Snacks, huh!) Did you have to pay again even though it was such a short time in between fills? Congrats on your weight moving again. I am looking forward to that too. She told me to wait about 2 weeks then contact SWLC again.

She has some good advice. I told her my downfall was the grazing on weekends at the cottage.....she says that and the wine of course, will always be a problem and try to avoid it. Even though it's like hummus & Triscuits, it's excess calories you don't really consider. Yes, it's all about the behaviour modification.

Hi Ladies! Miss Bibi did the SWLC prescribe only a .5 cc fill, I feel so bad for you. How much does this nurse charge, she does sound like a great resource though. Thanks for the advice cjf I will definitely give her a try.

I had another attempt at a fill last Thursday morning, then I went out of town to take the kids back to school shopping. Anyway, my GP was positive he was in the port, still could not withdraw any Fluid to check my levels, but was able to inject another 1cc. Since then I am sure it worked. I am eating 1 cup or less and it is keeping me full for over 4 hrs. I have lost 3 pounds since Thursday !! But I am returning to the SWLC on Friday just to confirm that everything is okay and get all my doubts answered. After that either my GP will learn from me or I will head to Sudbury (which is a 7 hr drive each way ).

Sorry my update took so long. My father in law is in the hospital pallative (just since Friday) and with me being in the medical field I am up there a lot to translate.

Yes, Polly, they only prescribed a 1/2 cc - for $75!! And feel I need more. She said wait a couple of weeks and call SWLC if I'm not happy and they will prescribe more. So you feel that a 1/2 cc was a joke? ~Sigh.....~ Glad you 2 girls are where you want to be fill-wise! Keep me posted!

I've been banded for years and .5cc is far from a joke. I have noticed huge differences with as little as .1cc They usually top you up to 4cc on your first fill as some will have 3cc and other 3.5 cc in there from the prime at time of surgery and then they usually take you up to 4cc. After that you go slow. Trust me you do not want to be too tight. I'd sooner get 2 fills then to put up with being too tight for even 1 day. Been there done that and it's not fun when you can't even keep Water down or it takes you hours to even get 4 oz of Fluid in.

Polly not sure where you are but if you are 7 hours from Sudbury, are you closer to Timmins? We have a fill nurse here affiliated with SWLC and she has been doing my fills for years and is very good at them.

So Done With it all - Thanks for the info on Timmins. It is a little closer I think. Good to know there is someone good there.

A small fill is good if you are close to your sweet spot but it doesn't sound like you were Miss Bibi. I feel like I'm really close now so .5 might be all they give me on Friday. I'll let you know.

Yes. 'So Done With it all', thanks for the info! We newbies can be skeptics!

Good luck, Polly...I'll hang in and see what SWLC says too. Keep in touch, All!!!

I am quickly compiling a list of foods I get stuck easily on:

1) Bagels - plain or toasted, not good

2) ham kolbassa - no matter how much I chew, not good

3) anything cold out of the fridge - had a fish fry over the weekend and had a small piece of left-over fish to nibble on....am just now still wretching over it.

Have to admit....LAP-BAND®® sure keeps you honest!

Gotta go.........

Have you two registered over at the SWLC forum where you can talk to other patients of the clinic who have been banded forever? Not many of us hang out on lapbandtalk any longer so you may get a lot more support over there. Just a suggestion as you are both very new to banding.

I'm back from my very quick trip to the clinic and all is well. I had 4.2cc's in my band and I was topped up to 5cc. I'm not quite there yet but very close. I'm very relieved that all is well.

Good to hear! I've gotten 'stuck' a couple of times, a couple of days in a row. Can't do Bagels, kolbassa, jalapeno poppers, and have now discovered not even cole slaw, well chewed. It's been a slow go since my 1st. fill 2 wks. ago....lost 1 lb. since. I'm debating if I'll give myself a bit more time before my next fill....things are so erratic for me! Some days, I am content, others I can graze all evening and not feel full....still trying to read myself. :blushing:

I have been stuck several time since my last fill...I believe it is my own fault... I wolf down and don't cut and chew properly. I tried toast the other morning... it came back up,

I think when I eat too fast this happen... BUT I have tried (after reading this in the forum) is when I am stuck I slip the hotest Water I can... IT does relax the Esophicus (sp) and

things will move. Sometimes not right away... but it does work...when I had this problem three dinners in arow I drank a cup of tea the 15 minutes before...that helped.

BIBI I was stalled for a couple of weeks also but now I am moving again...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GIRLS, it is worth it!!!:blushing:

Hi Ladies! Miss Bibi I feel the same way as you most days. I seem to stay the same for days and days then suddenly I'll be down 2-3 lbs. Its painful when for many days there is no change.

My father in law passed away from cancer on Monday so things have been crazy around here. He is the first parent we have lost. He was diagnosed only 7 weeks ago. Anyway I'm going to try to find time to call the clinic today and get going on my next fill. Hopefully for next week too.

Are you both exercising much? I'm getting in a good hour walk every other day right now but now that I'm not spending tons of time at the hospital I want to get out more.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
