Good Afternoon All;

Time here is 2:10 PM Friday. I just got back from my stay at the hospital 15 mins ago. I know everyone in the post op page has been banded, except for those who, like me, have come here to get some first hand scoop on what to expect.

No. 1 - It has gone exceptionally well, almost no incision pain, cant even say I have gas pain, more accurate to call it gas discomfort. No shoulder pain, but gas discomfort just under the rib cage at the diaphram.

I had made elaborate plans to sleep in the living room on a recliner, nope, will now sleep upstairs in my bed. Thought I would have problem going to the bathroom in regard to sitting down and getting up - nope.

I tried to have everyting prepared for recovery. Bought the recmmended MOM, that crap tastes like dead fish. Now have chocolate exlax and will just let it melt in my mouth and then just swallow the liquid. I am surprisingly bloated. I know about the gas thing, but wow, looks like I am pregnant.

I am being exceptionally cautious about eating too much or too fast. I am on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. I only sip Water, and chicken broth, and the Boost. I will not experiment or push the envelope.

I had a wonderful nursing staff at Yale New Haven Hospital. Of course each phase of the hospital process was slower than I had hoped for, but I have to remember this is just ordinary routine surgery, and they have real case that may demand priority. Never the less I had my own room and a TV with remote (A guy thing).

If any pre-banders haven any questions, please feel free to ask. Each Dr is different, and we all respond to experiences differently, but if I can be of any assistance just ask.

Regards

Hal

Congrats and it's good to see everything went smoothly!!

I keep trying to tell people to not overthink things. Your surgery sounds like mine and many others. Uneventful and boring.

The fearmongers here keep trying to scare people on their way to surgery with stories of pain and the inability to sleep normally. They have some stocking up on enough supplies for 10 years as though they won't be able to ever leave the house again.

:thumbup:Welcome to the club. Don't get too familar with the Exlax cos on the liquid diet, what goes in a liquid usually comes out a liquid. Get lots of rest the first few days and you'll be back to your NEW self in no time. Best of luck!!!

That is soooo true! I'm still 4-5 months from surgery and I read EVERYTHING I can find on the actual surgery day. I'm probably more anxious than most :thumbup:... But yes, some people do scare me even more! And I'm already making a list of "supplies"... wonder if I should start cutting it down a bit. :thumbup:

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
