I know that the only way you can eat bread is if it's toasted, but what about muffins, waffles & pancakes? Are these all a no no because they are breadlike too?? I am finally on regular foods again after 6 long weeks and now i feel like I'm afraid to eat anything! lol

Everything is on an individual basis. Try it and see if it works for you or not.

I am able to eat both bread and pancakes. The pancakes weren't the real thick cakey kind and the bread was a whole grain double Fiber kind.

I think it just depends on the person.

I am with you. I am afraid to try things like that, not just because of getting stuck, but becaise carbs make me hungry and I do not want to get my hunger going again.

I am doing great without it.

Really small bites and chew to a paste wait a minute and if you feel o.k proceed again. bread was Ok for me untill I had more of a tight fill really restricted now and cant even eat it toasted. Enjoy it while you can!

I really can't eat any of the things you listed, nor would I want to. I do agree with the PP that it is on an individual basis. All of those things contain a lot of carbohydrates, which I avoid like the plague. My weakness is Starbucks. I know! I know! Tons of carbs! But I treat myself once in a while and that seems to be working for me. Best wishes!!!

Usually toasted bread goes down easier. Regular bread seems to expand once it goes down or something like that so it gets stuck easier.

I have had 3 fills (6 cc), and I am starting to tell bread doesn't sit well. I take bigger bites than I should, and it doesn't get stuck, but it hurts going down. Usually supper isn't as bad, but if I eat a sandwich for lunch it is worse.

I can eat small amounts of both, but NOT IN THE MORNING!! I usually take 1/2 of pancake of my bf plate and use sugar free Syrup. Toast...I can do 1/2 English muffin...almost burnt. But enjoy the fear of food...because once you lose that, then you have to just work with will power. Being fearful is GOOD! I think I lost the first 35 pounds on fear alone...LOL.

I avoid breads. I've learned to eat wheat crackers instead. Occasionally I can tolerate a piece of hard italian bread. Other than that I'm afraid of bread getting stuck..

I was just discussing this with my husband. I don't necessarily have a fear of food but just don't enjoy eating anymore, not really. I agree, this is a good thing and will keep the scale moving. Best wishes!

When introducing new foods try it later in the day (restriction is normally most significant in the morning for most people) and take very small bites and then wait to see how well you tolerate it. Just remember calorie density of the foods you're eating!

As someone else posted, I avoid breads and other carbs like them because they spike my hunger. However, when I wasn't feeling well a few weeks ago, I did have half of a toasted english muffin and it went down well. Like w/ everything else, take it slow and chew. I like the idea of introducing new things at the end of the day as well. For me, that's when my band is most forgiving.

Generally speaking, breads and anything w/a bread-like consistency does not work for me. I just avoid it all. Honestly, I don't even miss most of it anyway. Once you've been stuck a few times, you just look at it and think ugh!

I've only had 2 fills and can eat almost anything. I am losing well...not too fast becasue I only want to lose 2 lbs a week...so I am considering not getting another fill until I have a hard time sticking to my diet. I have targeted 1200 calories a day as the level I will lose the desired weight. When I start to lag and get more restriction I am told that breads and a few other foods will be more difficult. For now I am enjoying the flexibility that 1200 cal gives me. I make sure to chew very well and be aware that larger bites could cause problems. I also try to stay away from white fluffy bread. So far small amounts of pancakes, muffins, and things like French toast haven't been a problem and eating them makes me feel "normal". That helps me stay motivated to stay on a diet.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.
