August 2010 anyone?

I know it's still a couple of months away but i just found this site last week and have been reading threads from people who were banded august and sept of last year.

I'm happy i've finally made the decision after thinking about it for a couple of years (could actually kick myself for not acting sooner)

I'll be filling out the paperwork this week and sending it in. Nothing is covered here in Canada so it's 100% out of pocket for me which is a HUGE amount of money but they way i figure it is that we don't need another car new or used, we aren't buying a house (live with my parents who are in and near their 80's) and even though we have credit cards and take vacations i'd like to be able to do it and not be exhausted after an hour of walking through Disney World or fit in to the seat of the plane next year when we fly to England.

so i'm here and thought we could support each other through our decision, preop, post up and through the months ahead of us.

i also thought i'd keep track of all our stats if everyone's ok with that. i'll do it in the second post and we'll take it from there :cursing:

Congrats to us all for making the decision to get and stay healthy for whatever our reasons are we've done it.

I'm 42, married, have a beautiful 4.5 year old daughter who has more energy then she even knows what to do with and i'd love to even keep up with half her day.

5'8, 320lbs and would love to see myself at 165 but would be thrilled with 175.

I don't have a surgery date yet until i submit the deposit of $3000 but it will be sometime in the second week of Aug.

Hi everyone! My name is Marie and I am scheduled for August 25th. I really wanted the 23rd because that will be my 30th birthday, but it is also my surgeon's birthday and he wanted it off, lol. I have been working on this since April and I am so excited that that I finally have a date. I have very severe sleep apnea and until readign this thread didn't think about bringing my machine to the hospital. Glad I read that. We should develop a general list of things you *might* need to take.

I am also having my surgery in August!! I am scheduled for August 12th!! Shadena and Star I would love to chat with you because we will be going through this around the same time! Good luck and blessings to everyone!!!:thumbup:

My surgery date is set for August 13, 2010. Anybody else with the same exact date????? Would be fun to talk to each other about everything.

I just went in for my pre-op appointment and I'm scheduled for August 2!!!! My liquid diet starts tomorrow and I'm so excited. I can't believe i only have 2 weeks left before I'm officially a Bandster.

Is anyone else more worried about the pre-op diet than the actual sugery? 2 weeks of protein shakes and soup sounds HARD but I know I can do it. I'm just going to need ot get really creative with the drinks. My doctor gave us a bunch of recipes that sound yummy that I can't wait to try.

Good luck to you all. I'll post how surgery goes as soonj as I'm up to it since it looks like I'm the first for August.

:):eek::biggrin: Good Luck!!!

After a painful insurance experience, I finally have an approval and a new surgery date! I was supposed to be banded on July 7, got to 3 days before surgery, only to be denied by insurance. :) But I got the call this morning and I am approved and will be banded on Aug. 6!!! WHOO HOOO!!!!!!!

August 9th for me!!!

I am concerned though...i havent been put on any diets??? i had my pre-op testing done 2day...which was the absolute worse!!! Anybody else out there not on a diet

hi i am being banded on the 8th of august in dolan park, i have my preop test tomorrow morning they havnt put me on a diet either can i ask what happens at a preop test

I haven't read this whole thread but I have a surgery date of 8/9/10. I have an appt with my pcp to get labs and an EKG ordered tomorrow. :tt2:

5'5" initial weight was 246lbs current weight is 233lbs goal weight is 160lbs.

I just learned yesterday that my surgery date is 8/26. My process started in December. I had 6 months of diet monitoring, 2 sleep studies (I am using a cpap machine now), psych eval (3 visits), bloodwork, 2 support group sessions and my initial visit with my surgeon.

I have left to get a physical from my primary care physician, meet with my surgeon again and all of the pre-op "stuff".

I am slowly preparing myself for the liquid diet. It doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but I know it is part of the process. And to make the band work, I know I have to do everything the surgeon tells me to.

im nervous and excited at the same time. by the way im 32, 200 lbs, bmi of 36 and i have to bring my weight down to 120-130 lbs.

:) Wow Lizzie77, your journey sounds sooooooo similar to mine! Good luck!:tt2:

So we are all heading into the final stretch. I'm SO nervous about the liquid diet. I truly think I'm going to starve to death. I'm setting up another appointment with the dietitian before 8/9 so I can know exactly what I can and can't have

I agree with you, the liquid diet is what i am the most nervous about. My last appoint with the surgeon is on the 26th I am hoping he tells me i only have to do the diet for a week! I know i know wishful thinking!!!

Good luck:rolleyes:

Called insurance to check... again... and I'm APPROVED!!! They determined it is covered and that I meet all requirements!

So now just have to wait for Surgeon's office to call with the date! Should be in about 3-4 weeks!
