August 2010 anyone?

I know it's still a couple of months away but i just found this site last week and have been reading threads from people who were banded august and sept of last year.

I'm happy i've finally made the decision after thinking about it for a couple of years (could actually kick myself for not acting sooner)

I'll be filling out the paperwork this week and sending it in. Nothing is covered here in Canada so it's 100% out of pocket for me which is a HUGE amount of money but they way i figure it is that we don't need another car new or used, we aren't buying a house (live with my parents who are in and near their 80's) and even though we have credit cards and take vacations i'd like to be able to do it and not be exhausted after an hour of walking through Disney World or fit in to the seat of the plane next year when we fly to England.

so i'm here and thought we could support each other through our decision, preop, post up and through the months ahead of us.

i also thought i'd keep track of all our stats if everyone's ok with that. i'll do it in the second post and we'll take it from there :cursing:

Congrats to us all for making the decision to get and stay healthy for whatever our reasons are we've done it.

I'm 42, married, have a beautiful 4.5 year old daughter who has more energy then she even knows what to do with and i'd love to even keep up with half her day.

5'8, 320lbs and would love to see myself at 165 but would be thrilled with 175.

I don't have a surgery date yet until i submit the deposit of $3000 but it will be sometime in the second week of Aug.

Me! I've gone through the 6 month process and got official approval today. My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 3rd. I go in for my pre-op this Thursday and then start my pre-op diet next week. I'm nervous and excited! I can't believe it's finally here.

Congrats Jamelyn!! I too have been working for this very day since the begining of the year. I think the closer it gets the more nervous and excited I will get...

My date is August 6 2010, my pre op is July 27, 2010, I am looking for support in the Savannah Ga area. :)

Yes exactly ! If your Doctor required it he would have you do it 3 different times 4 weeks between =)

Hello everyone,

I finally got my surgery date last week. AUGUST 11, 2010 Yay!!!!!!! I have been in the process since Dec 2009 because my insurance co. required the 6mos medically supervised diet. howeveri must say that I worked hard and when my six mos were finished I had last 12.5 lbs. The next hold up was my Pulmonary clearence that was scheduled June 6, 2010. I went for the clearence and the Dr. made me come back for a follow-up 30days later (due to a switch in Asthma medications) this new appointment was sceduled for July 6, 2010. Well how about on June 30th the Pulmonary office called and tried to reschedule my appt for July 30, 2010. After i flipped out (ha, ha) i was given an appt for July 5th (the power of determination!!!!!!) and a week later my Surgeons office called with my date 8/11/10!

Now i am getting all my pre-op testing and preparing for my Liquid pre-op diet!!!

Thanks for reading and good luck to all the Aug 2010 Banders!!!!!!

I have had excessive daytime somulence and at first they thought it was narcolepsy. I was tested a year ago for sleep apnea by a sleep study and it was negative. I just had a second one a month ago and since my last I have gained weight. I have developed sleep apnea to the point where my 97% of my REM sleep is sleep apnea. Your REM sleep is your best rest- or dream sleep. Sleeping helps you heal and if you can't sleep well then your healing will not be as good as it can be.

so what exactly do they do for it, can it postpone your surgery?

If your asking if having Sleep Apnea can postpone surgery?? It would depend on your doctor. In my case YES. he is strict about it. He said i have to use my CPAP ( breath machine) at night every night for 6 weeks before i can have surgery. That way i get used to it and my body will be relaxed during recovery, i am expected to bring my machine with me to the Hospital also. When you have sleep apnea your body struggles all night long. I know before using the machine I would wake up so many times a night to go to the bathroom or feeling pressure like I was holding my breath things like that. I found out it's because your body is working overtime to keep you breathing so it's putting pressure on everything ( kidneys / heart / organs). Not every doctor is as strict as mine. He/she will get your results and will decide. Every person is different.:)

Congrats Star13,

Yay!!!!!!:thumbup:you are the day after me! let me know when you start you liquid diet, i can sure use the encouragement and support!!!!

we're heading down to your neck of the woods next week. spending 3 days in savannah before heading to disney world.

my last "fat vacation"

Hi I am scheduled for August 13th, I am so excited I was suppose to have the surgery last Friday but I had some questions I needed answered. I cannot wait. Patti

I had to through the same thing. I started dec 2009 but I have my date now, August 13th. I cannot wait. I am so excited.

I have been having some pretty bizarro dreams about surgery lately. I told my mom about them and she just laughed at me. :)

I go for my pre-op with the surgeon on the 19th- next monday and then start my 2 week diet on Tuesday. We are driving from Austin to Denver during that time and will be gone for 9 days. At least I will have things to keep my mind off of surgery. And Im glad Im doing high protein/low carb instead of all liquid. That would be miserable being stuck in the car driving for 4 total days to and from.

so what exactly do they do for it, can it postpone your surgery?

You will need to get a sleep titration done for your CPAP machine. Most surgeons require you to be on it atleast 6 weeks before surgery. This can in turn post-pone your surgery.

After much craziness with my surgeon's staff I finally got a surgery date of 8/16.

I have to have a heart to heart with him to tell him my frustrations with them but barring any foolishness from him I hope

to be banded on the 16th. I've been going through this process since about 10/09.

I can't wait and will be needing you all for encouragement on my liquid diet and all the rest. I'm not as anxious about the pre-op liquid diet as I am about the dreaded bandster hell after the surgery.

That's me though always looking ahead to problems that have not yet realized
