August 2010 anyone?

I know it's still a couple of months away but i just found this site last week and have been reading threads from people who were banded august and sept of last year.

I'm happy i've finally made the decision after thinking about it for a couple of years (could actually kick myself for not acting sooner)

I'll be filling out the paperwork this week and sending it in. Nothing is covered here in Canada so it's 100% out of pocket for me which is a HUGE amount of money but they way i figure it is that we don't need another car new or used, we aren't buying a house (live with my parents who are in and near their 80's) and even though we have credit cards and take vacations i'd like to be able to do it and not be exhausted after an hour of walking through Disney World or fit in to the seat of the plane next year when we fly to England.

so i'm here and thought we could support each other through our decision, preop, post up and through the months ahead of us.

i also thought i'd keep track of all our stats if everyone's ok with that. i'll do it in the second post and we'll take it from there :cursing:

Congrats to us all for making the decision to get and stay healthy for whatever our reasons are we've done it.

I'm 42, married, have a beautiful 4.5 year old daughter who has more energy then she even knows what to do with and i'd love to even keep up with half her day.

5'8, 320lbs and would love to see myself at 165 but would be thrilled with 175.

I don't have a surgery date yet until i submit the deposit of $3000 but it will be sometime in the second week of Aug.

August 11th. Good luck all!!!

Hey Cleetus, I am August 11th too!

Packing for the family camping trip! Really glad my dr only requires a 1 week pre-op diet... liquids, protein shakes, and 4oz lean chicken or fish with green veggies (nothing on them though) for dinner. Happy I won't be on the pre-op diet in the woods!

But kind of looking forward to the pre-op diet to lose these 5 lbs I've gained back from "last meals". (I know they're not last meals and once I've hit restriction I can eat normally, just less) but everyone I know keeps taking me out to lunch and dinner for the "last time". I need to just shut my mouth and stop eating!!!

I am going to allow myself 1 smore while camping... probably the last night. And I will eat smaller portions of what everyone else is. I will have my protein shakes for breakfast (except on french toast day... my dad goes into town and buys homemade bread from the general store-- there's a real general store!!! and it makes french toast that is to die for! So I'm having 1 piece... not 3 or 4...) and I will be getting more exercise than usual with canoeing and hiking around so hopefully by the time I go in for my pre-op visit I'll be within a pound of where I was when I was OK'd for surgery!!!

Pre-op visit and pre-admission testing on Thursday Aug 5. Nutrition class (required) on Aug 6. Pre-op diet starts Aug 6. SURGERY ON THE 13TH!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone!

I too am being Banded in August! Aug 24 to be exact. I am so excited! I am 29, happily married with an amazing 4.5 year old son. I live in Alberta and am having the procedure done by Dr. Kaban in Regina, SK. I go for all my consults (Psych, nutrition, exercise, and surgeon) on Aug 3. I start the Optifast Pre-op diet on Aug 10, hopefully that stage isn't too bad! lol Good Luck to all!!

Car :)

I hear so many people who are worried about the liquid diet. I feel for you. My surgeon only requires the Atkins diet and I am one week in and struggling. Do you know why different doctors require liquid vs. Atkins?

My name is Erin. I am 24 years old, I am a nurse and a softball coach and I am currently scheduled for LAP-BAND® on August 11th!!!!

I attended seminar late June and it's been a whirlwind since then. My Dr. does a lot of preop testing. I've had psych, dietary, EKG, pulmonary function test, echo, sleep study, chest x-ray, and labwork. Everything came back normal!

I am self-pay but getting a discount because I work at the hospital I am having it at. Also getting to do payroll deduct but still a lot of money. I am so excited and know it will all be worth it!

Excited to be a part of this forum and get to meet other August bandsters!!!

Here's my stats-

Height- 5'9"

Highest weight- 340

Current weight-332

Pre-op diet 8/1/10

Surgery 8/11/10

Excited to get to know everyone! Anyone have any tips for my 10day liquid diet??

Hi, Erin! My band date is the 11th too. I just came back from seeing my doc and getting my liquid diet. I start tomorrow. Can't wait! :)

Hi y'all! Hey, ddow... How'd it go today??

Two more days and I'll join you for the pre-op diet. :cursing: I am actually looking forward to it! My eating is awful lately. Guess no time like the present to get it under control! Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey tim and mich. My first day was ok but I have a real problem with the taste. I'm going to call the doc tomorrow to see what I can do to make it better.

August 24th here! Can't wait my pre-op appointment is on August 19th I'm worried since my doctor is very stict on the pre-op diet and I haven't been trying my best...I'm lost 7 lbs since I last saw him but I have a feeling if I dont loose another 5-10lbs he might reschule me :cursing:

i started my pre -op a week early to make sure i lose something before the surgery. I think they want 10 lbs. ive allready in 3 days lost what i gained but still have the 10 lbs....blahhhh. August 17th hurry up!!!!

best of luck to you all!!!

Jennifer

What kinds of protein drinks are you all using for your pre-op diet? Does anyone have a brand that they highly recommend?

I use a whey one from Muscle Milk that I buy at Costco it's low in calories high in protein. Its decent but I really haven't found a protein drink that I can say i love! I think after a while all the protein drinks taste TOO sweet and I really don't like to have sweets so :cursing:

I use Pure Protein in Vanilla, Do i like it? Not really,:cursing: but is has 25g of Protein and low low cals also! I have to do too much to my shake to make them taste ok. And the scoop that is included is huge. I also have Pro Proformance from GNC in Vanilla it is not that bad and the scoop is alittle smaller.

Now i found that i do like Ensure slightly frozen, but it is high in cals and only has 13g of protein but I can say i LOVE the thaste :drool:compared to the protein powders.

Happy Shakes!!!!!!

August 30th Here! Can't Wait! Good Luck to everyone.

Me too and it looks like by the timing in your signature, we were doing everything around the same time as each other! :cursing:

Hey, Cat, my advice is to take your surgery date with a grain of salt. I scheduled before insurance approval and ended up being denied 3 days before my surgery. I won my appeal and got another surgery date, but I was so devastated when I was denied. Might be a bit easier on the psyche to not get your hopes up before that approval!

I am also Aug. 6th.....One week from tomorrow! I only have two days of liqued diet, but I figured I'd go ahead and start on Aug. 1st.
