Afraid To Start Next Step.... REAL FOOD

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I start real food, no mushies, no pureed, real food.< /p>

I gotta say, I am afraid. I'm afraid of eating to fast, to much, I'm afraid of something getting stuck. I know dry ckn can be a probem, bread and stuff like that so I don't intend on going in that direction.

I guess bottom line is... I'm afraid of gaining weight back, especially after struggling these past few weeks.

I'm looking forward to biting into something but scared poopless.

Thanks for listening.

Hugs !!!

Try not to be too hard on yourself if you do gain a bit of weight. As you can read from this forum it is completely normal to gain back some before your first fill. I gained back 5 pounds before my 1st fill and quickly lost it afterward.

I have heard of people staying on soft food and Soups and they do NOT lose weight any quicker than those on solids with proper restriction. You have to eat to lose!!

Best of luck to you!

Don't worry about gaining weight until you are properly restricted. This is perhaps the most frustrating part of the process, when you can eat real food, but before you have had a fill.

Hey you,

You have done wonderfully, 19 lbs, wow, that's great. I agree with the others about not stressing over it right now.

Whether you realize it or not, you have already developed a good foothold in this journey. You have been posting and reading like crazy, and now that you have a couple of weeks under your belt being banded, you've already begun the transformation.

Just go with the flow, you already know quite a few things that you won't eat, due to others also having problems with certain foods. Now is the time to learn what you can and want to eat. Your pouch is smaller than your old stomach, and as long as you eat solid foods and avoid drinking immediately after, it will begin to work for you. During this time, you will still have some restriction, but certainly not a lot and it will become less and less as the swelling continues to go down. But take this time to try foods that you would like to incoorporate into your new lifestyle, just try them in smaller portions. Eat a lot of fill food, like salads and lean meat. During this phase, try to avoid as many liquid calories as possible, let Water be your liquid of choice. That will help to eliminate calories that don't sustain you right now. You have lost weight in the past, simply try to follow what you did before to lose weight for the time being. It isn't going to be permanent, but it will buy you some time until you can start to get fills and the beloved restriction. Avoid the scales if at all possible. Don't give yourself another reason to beat yourself up or mess with your head and tell you that this isn't going to work either. It will work, I promise.

I know you have it in you to be strong, but when you're running short on strength and determination, there are tons of people here willing to share some of their's with you, including me. Together we will all succeed!!

Ooooo Eileen - you get to really start working it, now! Lucky girl! Just remember - when you think you have chewed enough - chew some more!

Good Luck!

My doctor told me to eat lean Q's or something about that size container with meat and veggie. Till I go for my first fill. Report to him how much I can eat so he knows how much to fill.I would think I will be so ready to get off liquids and mushies. In afraid I am going to have a hard time the first five weeks.

You will be just fine, I was surprised after my first real meal again, there were no problems and I had no restriction and I could eat. I had to reel myslef back in and started gaining, but just take care of yourself until you get your fills started and you won't have any troubles.

Work it, girl, work it!

So much of this journey is unknown...it is normal to be nervous before a new step. I've seen how you handled all the other steps, and you have done beautifully! It will be the same here, you'll see.

Well we just came back from my first real meal, dinner.

I had chicken, baked potato w/sour cream and carrots (the ckn was in a sauce so it was nice and moist) I ate the smallest pieces, you'd think I was feeding a baby. I was eating and eating and Boing!!! I felt a twing in my stomach. I put down my fork and said not another bite, although my brain said keep going. I wasn't "full" just content. This is nice :)

I ate about 1/4 of the meal :) which was about 1/4 of a piece of ckn breast, 5 small bites of the baked potato, maybe 1/4 cup of carrots.....oh and about 5 tiny bites of salad. All in all about a cup of food.

My brain kept saying DESSERT !!!!!!! lol, but I didn't.

Thanks again everyone :D

That's awsome!!! You ate very well and very sensibly. You remembered to make sure that the chicken wasn't too dry and everything, you're amazing. I am so thrilled for you. Now that you have taken that initial step, it will become easier, especially since you have an idea of what having a band feels like now!!

Keep up the great work!!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
